I noticed that some people on lens-protocol (decentralized social-media network) call it "open social".
Why that is relevant is — I have seen some try to use "open social" as an alternative name for the 'Fediverse'. But it "open social") seems to already be in use elsewhere.
@reiver thank all that is good and wonderful! I kinda hate "Open Social Web". It's like the opposite of "how do you do, fellow kids?" By trying to not sound intriguing at all...😬
Hey, now you can ask people who federate but link to accounts that don't, to ask those accounts to also federate. Appropriate and genius cause who else could make the case better, or rude? #SocialWeb
I get that but they are making progress and are huge with legal teams etc. hard to read at this point. if I had a better sense of the business case for doing so, I'd feel more sure I knew where this was going.
@wjmaggos 🤷♂️just seems asinine that a single person could get it running for a company that he doesn't even work for, before a multi-billion dollar conglomerate can get it working for their own system.
I checked the official website of #OpenGraph (see: https://ogp.me) and I don't see the fediverse: namespace anywhere. Which means this fediverse: namespace is not an OpenGraph tag and will more likely not work without a proper prefix namespace, correct?
So, what am I missing here? People are already adding it. O_O
Update: Relevant thread/discussion about this fediverse: namespace.
@BeAware Also, I'm wondering why no photographers and creative folks set up [multiple] instances.
I mean, during the first Twitter mass exodus (Japanese side), Misskey, Pleroma, and Mastodon instances went online one after another. Which was then repeated during the Twitter exodus 2 (Western side).
Then there was the Reddit exodus, and Lemmy and Kbin instances sprung up everywhere.
It's a wonder why that, I don't know, “formula”(?) did not happen in this case. I mean, granted, Cara has been around. But, there were also other platforms around during the earlier mass exodus events.
Hmm… I guess there are few techie people in the photography and creatives community of Instagram? Or, they were disenfranchised by Threads one-way federation? (Other than so very few talked about Pixelfed.)
Still want to replace liberal.city with a server name and network of users that could be much bigger and stand for a fedi culture that wants everyone here, as long as they don't harass people. Unpopular opinions and facts not currently widely accepted welcome. Not otherwise branded with any specific ideology or community. Anybody else interested? #SocialWeb
This is a really cool Social Web/Fediverse logo mosaic that imo. more people should know about and use! https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fediverse_mosaic.svg
Who did/do you follow from #xitter via https://bird.makeup that is now also on #threads and enabling federation, such that you can switch your following method? Not sure I can point to anyone that fits this pattern for me :( #SocialWeb
I actually have no idea how many boosts and favs some of the most successful posts get here in the Fediverse, because my instance shows a fraction of them no matter how successful they are. But guess what? I don’t care! It’s the best part here, to effectively unlearn that like-craving social media trait.
Everyone likes ”likes”, but in here it happens in our own terms and overall the metrics don’t really matter in the end.
Starting to get really tired of people telling me “how to use #SocialMedia.” I’ll post whatever the fuck I want, you don’t have to engage. Get the fuck off you high-horse about what is, and how should, social media be utilized. You’re doing nothing but sounding like a pompous prick to everyone else. :0450:
@BeAware The crux of the matter lies in how we perceive and define the concept of being "social" on social media. Fundamentally, the very act of posting content on these platforms, regardless of the nature of that content, inherently opens one up to potential responses and interactions from others. By sharing something publicly, we are essentially engaging in a social behavior, as we are inviting others to react, comment, or connect with our post in some way. (1/2)
@molly0xfff is a leading cryptocurrency critic, but get to know her and you’ll see she’s anything but cynical about the future of the web. Hear why this researcher, writer and software engineer thinks so in this fascinating conversation with @mike:
People have email addresses like me@mydomain.com while also having a website at mydomain.com. What's preventing folks from also having a #SocialWeb account using me@mydomain.com? Would it just be confusing? Then there's all the different fedi services.
