My mother got her MSc. more than 50 years ago. She was a sort of a pioneer as she run climate models on computers. I remember we had (that were unfortunately lost in a flood many years ago). She has found a a few weeks ago. I remember back when I was a kid I wanted to build a system to read it. It may become an interesting project…

The first tests are encouraging. I still have to a proper light source, but the phototransistors get some light through the holes of the punched tape even with a table top lamp.

When my mom sends me newspaper clippings of articles she wants me to read in the mail there is often a punch card in there too with a little note from her.

I was late into my teens before I realized that this wasn't what most people's moms put in their lunch box, or used for notes.

She still does this.
