WHOA US Treasury Dept just sanctioned leadership at 🇷🇺Russian company .

Comes on heels of yesterday's Commerce Dept. ban on sales of their antivirus to the US.

Huge-but-somewhat-anticipated blow to whose fortunes in the US have been falling since the 2017 DHS binding directive to remove their products from gov systems.

Fascinating to see if other governments echo some of these actions.

2/ situation = teachable moment for painful truths about antivirus software.

1- Massive marketing has instilled the instinctive and INCORRECT belief that in regular users that antivirus products are the most important security step.

This is massively out of step with expert security recommendations.

People continue to get soaked by AV companies selling products that don't provide nearly as much protection as they think.

4/ Maybe you sort of trust the company that makes your antivirus to not be quietly taking copies of your sensitive project files for a foreign intelligence service.

Well, here's the thing, the kind of access that gets to your system combined with the need to run checks against files means that it has a really juicy surface for attack.

Hence the stream of research pointing out the many, many ways that popular antivirus products can be exploited.

US-Regierung verbietet russische Antiviren-Software Kaspersky

Was genau wurde da gefragt? Und warum finden die das?
