A Tale of 3 Buttercups: flowering now on the acreage and/or the farm 1) a falshy Eurasian species Ranunculus acris abundant at times in mesic/moist meadows 2) a nice but modest native wetland species (nice leaves!) and 3) a (sometimes? in this case for sure) tiny delicate thing, here growing in a mowed area in the yard.

A single modest buttercup flower, 5 shortish rounded somewhat spaced apart yellow petals surround a ring of yellow stamens and smoother central part. The upper stem leaves can be seen behind the flower and are highly divided, looking a bit celery like though fuzzy on the backs and leaf stems.
The leaves of the second butterbup, growing up through grass they are highly divided, looking a bit celery like though fuzzy on the backs and leaf stems, with irregularly branching fine veins on the surface and the faintest hint of red along the outer edges.
A small patch of tiny single stemmed plants crowned with itsy bitsy buttercup buds and flowers which are rather sparse looking: 5 narrow yellow petals are almost upstaged by a mounded central sexy part of yellow and green. Blurred lower stem leaves are scalloped half moons, upper stem leaves are narrow, so divided they almost appear as linear leaves. (many somewhat rounded leaves in the blurry background actually belong to Mitella nuda)

Some good news: after seeing that a garden center near me was selling water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) and common water hyacinth (Pontederia crassipes, formerly Eichhornia crassipes), both invasives, I pleaded with them to reconsider. Their vendor had insisted the species couldn't overwinter in Pennsylvania but that's not true and I provided evidence. Within hours the plant center had pulled the plants. So, folks, if you see something say something. It doesn't hurt to ask.
