Matt has really excelled at mindfuckery this campaign, more so than anything I remember in campaigns 1 or 2. That sequence with Chetney hallucinating all the slain children was chilling, as was Dorian's final vision. I can't believe they're going to being doing all of this live on Saturday. Live episodes are usually relatively jovial affairs...
I finally finished last week's episode today. I'm still really iffy on Aabria Iyengar's DMing and most of the Crown Keepers in general, but their parts held my interest, especially Aabria's portrayal of a really bitchy evil goddess and the denouement between Dariax and Dorian.
The reunion of Dorian and Bells Hells after the rather late break was chef's kiss
Also, I still think Sam is coming back at Taryon Darrington.
I am struggling mightily to finish this episode. I just don’t care about EXU and the Crown Keepers. I disliked the first series so much I never finished it and didn’t even bother to watch the Kymal series, so I have no idea who the bunny paladin of the Raven Queen is.
I don’t enjoy Aabria’s DMing at all (love her as a player though) and the EXU characters I really liked were Fearne and Orym. Lest you think I’m a OG cast homer, Matt’s Dariax is my least favorite. Oh, and I like Dorian now because of his adventures with Bells Hells…
I don't watch Critical Role much anymore, but I still have a lot of love for Vox Machina and I have some WIPs left over from the last few years. #criticalrole#illustration
I knew Aabria was jumping in on #CriticalRole this week because (god help me) I read the comments as usual, but I did not expect her to be sitting in Matt’s chair.
Halfway through the episode now and wow that threw me for a loop.
Sam Reigel just keeps making characters that too many people dismiss as "joke characters", that he then slowly reveals to be a complex, layered, joyfully tragic AWESOME PERSON.
He keeps doing it, over and over again, and everytime people fall into the trap and underestimate him again.
Wow, a great end to what was a really frustrating fight to watch - I know Matt was rolling really well, but Otohan struck me as over tuned, which is why I think he took FCG's sacrifice so hard.
In the aftermath of FCG's death, I want to see two things. They need to bring Christian Navarro back, b/c I need to see FRIDA's reaction. Also, it's time to bring new energy by bringing back an old friend - yes, Sam, bring back Taryon Darrington!
Critical Role watchers will understand:
I was totally thrown when I phoned my bank , and the person who answered said "Good morning, you have reached X bank, you're speaking to Laudna, how can I assist you?"
Took me a few moments to recover enough to respond! 😅
I may have missed it, but did they ever explain why there have been blue and green crystals strewn all over the main set for the past few episodes of campaign 3?
#Daggerheart was fun! Played with most of my regular #DnD group plus @Red_Light_Panda last night and everyone seemed to enjoy it! Distances were a little hard to adjust to for some of us and the open initiative was a change but my wife, who swore she'd hate it, actually found that she likes it.
Here's some pics from the final encounter! We didn't have a horse mini so I decided to use a giant spider instead so it's canon that they were being pulled by a spider-horse named Slepnir. Also, didn't have wraith minis so used ghouls instead.
Just finished the #Daggerheart one-shot on #CriticalRole. Pretty fun story, and great characters. The system looks pretty good. Liam had a good grasp of Irish idioms, but his accent was nowhere near as convincing as the rest of the table thought it was.
So, #Daggerheart Playtest -- having read it (but not played it yet), to me it looks like a modernized Dungeon World with slightly more complex combat/GM intrusions and more player options/character builds.
All things that I like, BTW.
Some things feel a little bit clunky (the whole "subtract armor rating from incoming damage when you spend armor" feels like defeating the purpose of simplifying the HP system with the thresholds). But other than that, it seems fresh -- looks promising!
After watching the one-shot by the #CriticalRole team, I'm not too sure on the Fear token economy. It looks like it might get too cumbersome for the GM (the whole token/action spend for GM activations during combat feels overly complex, RAW) BUT who knows? maybe once you try it in play, it clicks and turns to be smooth.
I'm watching the #CriticalRole Daggerheart basics video. Game looks interesting, but I find it so distracting that they're addressing the center camera, but they keep being filmed by the left or right one.
