For several weeks now these Tawny Frogmouths have moved their regular daytime roost from a nearby tree to a downpipe under the eves of a house, and seem very settled with their decision

Will be interesting to see where they choose to nest this year

They have big your-mother-and-I-need-to-have-a-word energy. But that might be just me 🤔

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I don't know but you can ask this one by my work if you can catch him. He looks shifty though, like the type of groundhog that would tell you winter is over when it's really just beginning. 🙄

Common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus) perched in the shadow of an old bigleaf maple tree's canopy and evaluating how big of a threat yours truly is, pointing at it with this funny-looking light-gathering apparatus.

Three scenes from the local woodlands - gorgeous Eurasian Jay, pedunculate oak being majestic and an upside world - reflection in a newly formed ephemeral pond; and a dandelion clock so all your wishes can come true :)

Have you ever heard a young hummingbird's peep?

It's a cloudy, windy day in SoCal. I think this little hummer was just learning how to make its wings work. It landed near me and stayed for several minutes. The dad came by for encouragement but I couldn't get him in the frame. Turn on volume to hear its tiny peep despite the wind. It flies off at the end.

A tiny hummingbird in a garden surrounded by tiny sunflower like blooms of Rudbeckia triloba. The bird is perched on a small stem about a foot above the ground. Its colors are speckled browns, grays and greens.

There she goes, there she goes again~♪

And there goes our neighborhood turkey! She’s been to our yard a few times. She gets around!
