Proxmox vs FreeBSD: Which Virtualization Host Performs Better?

Since migrating many servers from Proxmox to FreeBSD, we have consistently felt that the VMs are more responsive. It's time to conduct some concrete tests.

Normally, I don't post Linux stuff - but this one is worth sharing IMHO.

As you may be aware, Broadcom has taken over and they are ditching the free tiers, as well as some lower tiers. Prices are up 10.

Proxmox has just released version 8.2 of their open source hypervisor. It features a migration wizard that can fetch VMware VMs and import them through the API.

So, if fits your scenario, this is pretty much effortlessly switching and giving the big finger to the capitalist fucktards at Broadcom/VMware.

More info plus a quick overview video can be found here, the full releasenotes can be found here.

If it doesn't boot on your Dell hardware, try disabling X2APIC in the BIOS. It is a bad implementation from Dell, not Proxmox specific.

Discovered my servers were unreachable this morning and thought my server had crashed...again. Discovered that's not what happened.

Turns out that my 11 year old was angry at me so he snuck into my office, pulled the plug on my DMZ server and hid the power cable.

He's lucky I love him. LOL
