Earlier in the week, this being season, the first Bee Orchid I've seen this year. The little yellow pollinia shows it had not yet been visited by a pollinator. It was close to an impressively beefy Pyramidal, near Oxford. Quite a lot of Pyramidals in highway verges etc at the moment

I believe this is Ophrys x albertiana, a natural hybrid of holoserica and apifera, with a pollinator 🤩

I have successfully kept an alive. It's not pretty but it's budding.

I guess some plants just need to be ignored.

Found this orchid half price at the nursery yesterday. No label but it looks like a small dendrobium. Might be ‘chocolate chip’ based on the flower shape and colors. Here’s hoping it rehabs! It’s pretty cute but currently a bit dried out and wrinkly.

Closer picture of the stalk with two flowers. The petals are light to medium yellow with many tiny pinkish purple spots. The spots are on the outside of the petals and can be seen through on the inside.

Happy surprise this morning! I managed to rehab this grocery store orchid enough for it to bloom!

33 inches!!! That's a freaking long nectar spur requiring an equally freaking long moth proboscis.

This gorgeous flower is called a Tongue Orchid - for obvious reasons. It even has taste buds!
