Ontario Premier Doug Ford continues to mislead the public about engineering reports reviewed by multiple firms:

"Yes, there are serious deficiencies in the roof that need to be addressed urgently. But the report simply does not say what the government wants it to: that it had no other choice but to shut the science centre down immediately." - @jm_mcgrath

Few Ontario grocery stores sign on to Doug Ford's booze sale plan

While 3,068 convenience stores now hold licences to sell alcohol, only 37 [out of 2,000] grocery stores are approved so far--because they don't want to accept returned containers.

scrapped the deposit-return program for non-alcoholic drink containers will alcohol bottles/cans be next?

When a politician brags about cutting your taxes or getting beer into more places, ask them why a single school board in Mississauga has a $33 million shortfall on special education funding, and why twin five-year-olds were kicked out of the school.

When a government carves up a public entity so the private sector can benefit its called PRIVATIZATION.
That's what is doing to healthcare.
That's what Doug Ford is doing to the .

"Billions in LCBO dividends will be lost to - part of the Conservatives’ relentless drive to cripple government by shrinking all revenues. Underfunded services then fall into disrepair, allowing those same Conservatives to persuade us ‘the private sector does everything better’."

    @cjmoorehead@techhub.social avatar

@gemelliz The Ontario Liberals & NDP need to issue a joint statement indicating that they consider the LCBO, Ontario Place, and the Ontario Science Centre to be public assets that they will seize back from Doug's friends without compensation. When you knowingly buy a stolen car and the police impound it, you don't get your money back.

    doctors are livid...

"It makes me furious that can publish an interactive map to find beer in just one weekend, but he won’t do a thing to help any of the 2.3 million Ontarians who can’t find a family doctor" - Dr Adil Shamji

"Your policy priorities are warped & mistaken. Right now it is 19 hours to see an ER doctor in & you bask in pride over the "convenience" to purchase alcohol - a transaction already exceptionally convenient. - Dr Raghu Venugopal

@david_crispin I am sorry, David. Sadly, many Ontarians have no clue what is up to.

    Dr. Venugopal continues..

"Over 23 years and thousands of patients with problem drinking, I cannot recall ANYONE tell me they had trouble finding where to get alcohol or felt an interactive map should be a priority.
I have, however, met far too many patients who would like a non-existent detox bed." 😔 (in )

This what happens when people vote. 67% of the electorate voted in France this past week. Not massive. But it made the difference.

In less than 50% of the electorate and (ya I know FPTP) with 18% of the electorate got a majority.
be warned. Show up and vote like your future depends on it. Vote when called upon. Darn it.

“Cost of Ontario Science Centre temporary location exceeds cost of roof repairs” — https://www.canadianarchitect.com/cost-of-ontario-science-centre-temporary-location-exceeds-cost-of-roof-repairs/

“…back-of-napkin math brings us to a one-time cost of $17-55 million dollars, plus $8 to $28 million in rent, depending on the size of the temporary space and the length of the lease—$25-$83 million in all. All for a temporary location that may be difficult to access, will not be open until 2026…”

My dad complained about having to pay for parking at the doctor's office so I took the opportunity to explain how why they have to do this. Galen Weston gets $75 every time one of his pharmacists diagnosis a minor ailment but family doctors make only $37 per visit. "What?! So little?"
"Yes. That's why they have to charge you for parking because Ford's buddy pockets the money. Ford is corrupt. So if you want good healthcare, don't vote Ford".

For a change he didn't argue about anything so at least there's that.

Edit: it's only $37 per visit. I misremembered that extra dollar.

Anyone on here from Peel Region in Ontario?

If you are, you may not have even noticed that your water bill just went up, but this isn't a normal price increase. They claim this is revenue neutral. What they did was reduce the per unit consumption charge of your water and make you pay a connection charge instead.

So this is good for the big industrial water users who use a LOT of water as their per unit charge goes down a lot. If you are a small user, the per unit cost savings does NOT come anywhere close to the additional charge.

This is effectively the opposite of a just society where those who can afford it, subsidize those who can't. We are forcing small users who can't afford it to subsidize big users who can. Another trickle up economics move.

My friend is meeting his city councillor about this soon and I will be joining him as a infrastructure person. If you live in this area and want to help make some noise about this, please DM me. Get in touch with your city councillor and maybe we can get media.

This is the exact opposite of environmentalism as it encourages use at less cost.

Please don't @ me about cost recovery of infrastructure. I literally made a living doing analyses of infrastructure. The problem is

We are screwing the poor in favour of the rich. I know this is the way of the world....

Clearly, Premier Ford has no plan or intent to save the Science Centre. Ford's Conservative govt say they're scouting for a “temporary” site with approx 50 -100 sq ft of display space to replace the closed museum. (Science Centre’s Building “C” with very minor roof issues covers 285,000 sq ft)

Taking bets that installs a 'pop-up' Science Centre in his family-friend-owned Congress Centre on Dixon Road in Etobicoke. 😈

🚨 Doug Ford killed the Science Centre but made a mistake: he forgot to hide the engineer’s report he’s using as an excuse. Which says it’s mostly ok.

    Report: https://www.infrastructureontario.ca/en/news-and-media/third-party-reports/

Alex Bozikovic in the Globe: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/art-and-architecture/article-doug-ford-killed-the-ontario-science-centre/
“report does not say [immediate roof replacement] …replaced over a 10-year period, and all “high risk” and “critical risk” areas be reinforced and replaced before Oct. 31. Those areas [in 🔵blue & 🔴red] make up 7%, 6% and 3% of the centre’s 3 buildings”

Floor plan of Building B, the three-sided triangle with three large halls at each corner. This is the KidsSpark section and the Space section. The overwhelming majority of the roof is marked as low risk and nothing to worry about. Panels that are of greater concern are spread evenly across all sections of the building.
Floor plan of Building C, the largest and most-downhill hall, with the overwhelming majority of the roof marked as low risk and nothing to worry about. Panels that are of greater concern are scattered across the building with some clusters in one area.
A table describing four classifications of risk and recommended measures for protecting the Science Centre roof. Blue - Critical Risk Immediate restriction of access to occupied spaces below the RAAC panels followed by installation of shoring or replacement/reinforcement of the affected panels. Amber - High Risk Replacement or secondary support prior to the next major loading event. In Ontario, gravity snow loading is the governing load for most roof systems. As such, a date of October 31st in the same calendar year of assessment has been suggested as a target for completion of the work. Yellow - Medium Risk Annual reassessment required. Green - Low Risk Reassessment at three-year intervals.

Wow - A couple of prominent Ontarians have put on the spot by offering to pay the roof repair cost on the Science Centre in order to keep it open this summer.

Will the Premier say yes? 🤔 How embarrassing would that be if Ontario taxpayers have to crowd-fund to save our provincial assets.

Although there are no suspects in the shooting at the empty Jewish girls school two days ago in Toronto, Premier Doug Ford this morning wrongly blamed immigrants for the rise in antisemitism in Ontario.

Once again the Conservative Party flaunts their racist rhetoric and tries to deflect from their own Trump-style home-grown rage farming that is dividing Canadians at a time when we need to be united to solve our problems.
