I be thinking bout June 19th. Date that slavery was ended. We still ain't treated equal tho in 2024. I'm still seen as a nigga by the police. Still frisked and shit because of the color of my skin. Still seen as a threat just because I am black. We got a long ways to see true equality in the US fasho 🤦🏾

June 19 1865 marks the end of slavery in the US. Nearly all black folk in the US are decendents of slaves. Shit even my Last name be passed down from a slave owner to the generations. This day is important to celebrate our ansestors freedom from the chains ⛓️

💛 "Juneteenth: A Reason for Celebration or Reparations?”
By @williamspivey

Instead of celebrating Juneteenth, we should be talking about how to make things right in Texas and every state for American descendants of slavery.

Juneteenth is a recognized holiday now, seeing posts on my other socials checking to see if working class Black folks get it off. Consensus appears to be a resounding "no".

Frederick Douglass visited Ireland in the decades before the American Civil War, where he met Daniel O'Connell, Ireland's nationalist leader and a vocal critic of slavery. “I am the friend of liberty in every clime, class and colour. My sympathy with distress is not confined within the narrow bounds of my own green island. No — it extends itself to every corner of the earth," O'Connell said at a meeting of his Repeal Association that Douglass attended in September 1845. Here's a look at how his words influenced Douglass's activism: "Agitate, agitate, agitate."

Hey y'all! We're a coupla weeks into June and Biden got his white hand kissed by Billy Porter at a celebration for some reason. Weird how the federal recognition of a holiday with Black self-actualizing origins gets us to a moment like that but I think it truly calls for another Juneteenth reparations thread!

Procedure: Black ppl, post your cashapp, gofundmes, ko-fis, etc Others--especially if you're getting Juneteenth off at your work--pls boost, and donate if you have the means!

Here is the first thread. Lots of folk in these threads have $$ needs that are still unmet and there is also a post with Sudanese mutual aid links.

Hey y'all! so last year on I started a lil thread. Some racist assholes took issue with that...

So this year I'll be making multiple threads throughout the month! It's now June where I am so I'm eager to get started.

Black folks, reply w/ your cashapp venmo ko-fi etc etc if you like.

Other folks, (especially if you're benefitting from the federal holiday) throw them coins if you got the means and boost replies in the thread for circulation

:)

pls boost
