Wow. Paris just voted to triple the parking costs for SUVs.

A huge victory in the fight against car bloat.

Walk if you can. Take the bus if you can. I know that's not possible for many, but please try to avoid giving the auto companies any more money. We're dealing with Satanic levels of evil here. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/jan/29/us-car-costs-insurance-unaffordable

Tesla says it’s going to start building a new model in 2025, but that’s only to distract from how the next year or so looks dreadful for the company.

As it faces growing scandals and increased competition, it’s not clear Elon Musk can guide it through the challenging times ahead.

Why did Tesla drop the story about a new, lower cost vehicle sometime next year ahead of its earnings? Because it expects sales growth to be so low in 2024 it won’t even set a delivery target and needs something to dangle in front of investors.

Is it time that we started fat-shaming unnecessarily large cars? Because it's ludicrous for this trend to continue - quite apart from the dangers, what a waste of materials, space and energy!

Elon Musk claimed the Cybertruck could beat a Porsche on a quarter-mile drag strip, but analysis of the video shows he lied. As owners receive the vehicle, they’re also finding the range is far lower than advertised, among other issues.

I sold my last car in 2001. Since then to get around I have used my bike, my feet, public transit, and, on rare occasions, ride-sharing.

So I am a strong advocate for this!

"The Planet Can Do Better Than the Electric Car"

Transportation has long been a major source of greenhouse gases in the United States, with cars and light trucks producing more than half of such emissions. There are two basic ways to address that problem: You can make cars pollute less while they are in use, or you can induce people to drive less.

As global warming ascended environmental agendas in the 1990s, American advocacy groups focused largely on the former rather than the latter. Improving car fuel economy, not mode shift, was their dominant priority.

But Americans kept driving more miles and abandoning sedans in favor of less fuel-efficient SUVs and trucks. From 1990 to 2020, U.S. emissions from transportation rose 6.6 percent, faster than any other sector.

The solution, many environmental groups concluded, was to electrify the motor vehicles that seemed to be an American addiction. EarthJustice’s current website still calls electric vehicles “the wave of the future.”

But after focusing largely (some might say myopically) on electrification as a pathway to decarbonize transportation, many climate advocates are ready to lobby for less driving, period — not just less gas-powered driving. It’s an overdue shift that bodes well for the future of e-bikes and public transit — and for the planet.

Kia ora toot friends. (Hello in Māori language)
Tonight I am bringing some , , , and .
I hope you enjoy them and are radicalised like I am. Once you start seeing how we've been trapped by you cannot unsee it again.
Let's fight for space for people, cities that are walkable, accesible, clean, green and safe.
Of course, please contribute your own memes to the thread and also radicalise your family, workmates and friends!

Probably my personal favourite one is this extremely text heavy Simpsons .
I love it because it suddenly questions our assumptions of how normal it is to move about our cities, and it also highlights how wasteful and inefficient are.
Our cities can be very quiet and clean if we move in our feet, or bikes or scooters.
Cars are noisy dangerous and dirty. We should make cities where we need to use them as little as possible.

is what happens when we let our become our identities. When we prioritise cars over the lives of the people who surround us, of our own children.
Car Brain is the reason why even exists as a concept. Car Brain is a group project that the automobile industry has been working on for decades, and they have successfully installed it in most of us.

Once you start seeing how much space we sacrifice for #cars, you can't unsee it. They have taken over our cities completely.
And they feel entitled and justified to every single space available. Given a chance, anything becomes a parking spot.
And if you dare speak up about it or oppose it, #motorists respond immediately with aggression, violent threats, racism and sometimes actual violence.
Don't dare advocate for a cycle lane, some space in the footpath for a wheelchair user, or a stroller.
