The squirrels completely ate the middle out of this Aeonium Arboreum last summer; all that remained was two rows of the large red-tipped leaves.

This is how it grew back. 😮

Our squirrel-assaulted Aeonium Arboreum is blooming for the first time ever, and it's AMAZING. 🙂

(This started out as a cutting my wife picked up off the concrete at her uncle's condo three years ago.)

“The best camera is the one you have with you.” I was prowling in the yard for an elusive Stellar's Jay, when I noticed a big ol' bumblely bug harvesting pollen on the Aeonium. So I pointed my 10-kilo birding lens at the plant from 5 meters away and took a few quick shots. Of course by the time I was back with my light, nimble, and far sharper macro lens, the bumbley bug was nowhere to be seen.

(No, my birding lens doesn't really weigh 10kg. Just felt like it today.)

A flying insect with wings like a fly and body like a fuzzy bumble bee crawls a top a large flowerhead that is covered with small bright yello daisy-like blooms.
