Ok so I’m not saying that I dislike cleaning the coffee machine but I have just spent the last hour or so fixing the recalcitrant kitchen tap - rather than clean the coffee machine.
Seems that, with the right tools & a little bit luck & a lot of silicone grease one can in fact resurrect a sticking tap.
Turns out that the rubber seals inside the plastic cartridge were fine , but the lithium grease had dispersed over time.
The picture shows the tools / materials used. The tap spanner set was expensive as hell but has saved my bacon a few times now, its very versatile!
I used the potable silicone grease that I use when re-greasing the seals for the coffee maker after it has been cleaned, but I think it is a bit thin, hence the tap still sticking a little.
Cotton wool buds & a child’s toothbrush are marvellous for cleaning small / hard to get at items.
The video shows the tap in action post repair - it still sounds & feels a little argumentative, but I think that is due to me using silicone grease rather than the original lithium grease - I will get a tub of that & redo the fix , probably over the w/e.
If I remember I might do a vid of the fix.
Just call me the Tap Whisperer 😁
Guess cleaning the coffee maker will just have to wait till tomorrow.
It turned out to be a lot easier than I feared & obviously now that I’m not videoing it it has become even easier to move.
One of the Mastodon plumbers gave me a tip for some lubricant to use next time so I need to get a tub ordered.
I was gonna strip it down & redo it as soon as I got the new lubricant, but I think I will leave it until it starts sticking again - no point in wasting the silicone grease - its moderately expensive stuff.
@MAJ1
Owww well done!!! 💪🏼
It's always nice when a chore gets done and when it works out (mostly if not all the way 😉)!
Well, the coffee maker will still be there in the morning. And you have done that before, so it should be an easier task, if not a not so fun one... 😊

I very much enjoy your posts but if I might interject, I have used Rectorseal plumbers grease since the 1970's. It has worked on every brand and type of faucet that I've made repairs to. I hope this will be of help. It is completely safe!
@DoubleTreble@weirdfolks They are ridiculously useful I have had a toothbrush in every toolkit I have ever owned , I have a right small one (for toddlers I think) in my electronic tool kit upstairs.
And never underestimate the unbeatable combo of a cottonwool bud & isopropyl alcohol for cleaning small delicate parts .
@MAJ1@weirdfolks I rely on plumbers for these new toys and as said probably need a washer replaced as I use alot of very hot water and it is those cartridges that get replaced the most often as well tank can be turned up higher than old tank.. which even scares me ..as was standing by tank when it blew up once and released gas fumes ...😬😳😬
