emrikol , in Transparent Wood: Solarpunk fantasy in reality

Filling the air pockets with a substance like epoxy resin that bends light to a similar degree to the cell walls renders the wood transparent.

Unfortunately we still need to add plastic to make it strong.

NileRed has some videos about it:

I'm surprised I watched the whole video. Haha. Mildly interesting. Maybe slightly more than mild. 😁

We also have an art community where this could fit.

nikaaa OP ,

Yeah I see. I didn't know, will post there next time.

I tried this salad, it didn't work as well as I had hoped.

gramgan , in Youth International Party Manifesto (1968)

Catchy manifesto, perhaps, but the Yippies historically (to the extent there even was such a group) were the absolute pinnacle of spectacle for its own sake.
They got nothing done, and ultimately served only to hurt the public image of the legitimate countercultural movements in the long term.
I think it seriously goes against the more pragmatic and action-oriented outlook of Solarpunk to take cues from these guys.

The Yippies had a huge historical impact, one that deserves re-examination as another Chicago DNC approaches.

Been reading their stuff for over a decade now, I definitely think it belongs here. It was my first introduction to degrowth thought.

that was really good. heavy stuff, but really good.

That house is absolutely not to scale

PlantDadManGuy , in A cool guide Homestead on One-Tenth of an Acre

This is a nice sentiment, but not really to scale unless that's a kids play house.

FiniteBanjo , (edited ) in A cool guide Homestead on One-Tenth of an Acre

1 acre = 43,560 sq ft

43,560 sq ft / 10 = 4356 sq ft

8 ft x 4 ft x 8 = 256 sq ft if you bunch all the beds up together

Honestly it's entire lot size is slightly larger than an average USA home family floorplan, but you're not gonna have any privacy and you're not going to feed the people more than once in a blue moon on that amount of homegrown.

And you want to live with BEES in that amount of space? Yeah, have fun.

Sizzler ,

Haha, check out this guy, afraid of bees.

Am I blind, or is 4 missing?

NationProtons ,

It mentions there is no space for growing grains, so yeah no 4 in this picture

It says there's not enough space for reasonable quantities, similar to 6, so I expected to see 4 on there, too. I see what you mean, though, and it makes sense.

NationProtons ,

Yeah, would have been better to just mention it on the bottom without a number. This makes it confusing.

Onihikage ,
@Onihikage@beehaw.org avatar

It says in the list that there's not enough space to produce a reasonable quantity. So you're correct, it's not there.

It says there’s not enough space for reasonable quantities, similar to 6, so I expected to see 4 on there, too, but with the caveat. I see what you mean, though, and it makes sense.

I'd swap the chickens for ducks and swap the rabbit enclosures for somewhere to butcher game.
