Can this be explained by screening? i.e. they actively screen for breast cancer so they're going to find it even in cases where it wouldn't have ever affected the patient.

I haven't read the link (not in the mood to parse it) but that's my gut reaction to the title. I do recall reading somewhere that women throughout the industrialized world have seen their breast size increase substantially since the mid-20th Century. Sadly, risks of cancer increase along with this
