Two words, nuclear meltdown. Seriously though, city building games do still exist, although often the gameplay is part of a wider genre like 4X, kinda like stealth mechanics in action adventure games.

Max Payne "I was too tired to go on." or "I was afraid to go on."

Game over screens too like Arkham City with the villain mocking Batman. System Shock with the hopeless death animation. Sometimes the deaths can get elaborate and repetitive though like some horror games.

Krudler , in I miss the trend of games insulting you for quitting

Not quite on topic but I miss one thing from Llamatron. When you paused it showed a small icon of a toilet or a cigarette.

Psythik ,

I have a foldable phone (Samsung Z Fold 3), which unironically works out perfectly for DS and 2DS games. The only thing missing is the 3D.

This and cdromance were the 2 sites I thought were untouchable since google often didn't return them. Nothing is sacred.

kratoz29 ,

Nothing is sacred.

Torrents are, but that requires commitment (seed, don't leech only).

Disonantezko ,

Last time I did check Cdromance, don't have links to download anymore, I like that place because has many roms with patched QoL romhacks. Maybe now you need to have an account.

You go to the same url but .org and put the new cdr_ticket number there.

I didn't know about this 10 minutes ago, but now I'm downloading it from a torrent.

Good job Rockstar, you fucking losers.

kratoz29 ,

It doesn't matter if you are downloading it, what matters is that you'll play it and/or won't get the "Definitive Edition" or whatever is called the crap they are changing for this one.

echo64 , in San Andreas ROM for PS2 has been taken down by Rockstar on Vimm's Lair

takedowns are automated these days, either through full automation or paying low cost labor in places like India to just do google searches. Rockstar isn't "doing" anything here, aside from paying someone else to issue the takedowns. and the someone else doesn't know enough or care enough to apply logic that would cause all the other versions to get taken down too.

magic_lobster_party , in San Andreas ROM for PS2 has been taken down by Rockstar on Vimm's Lair

Side note, I’m impressed Vimm’s lair is still going strong. I remember using it to get SNES ROMs for ZSNES early 2000s.

JowlesMcGee ,
@JowlesMcGee@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, everyday I fear it'll get taken down. I'm seriously unsure how it's lasted this long. I hope it stays up forever though.

kratoz29 ,

Wow, I definitely didn't know it was that old, I know about it recently because ROM sites have become more difficult to browse and find (good sourced).

The look of the page definitely checks those days though.

E-waste

LazaroFilm OP ,
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

why e-waste? I’m re-using things. Nothing is wasted. We are re-using controllers to play new games. The waste would be to buy each console. Instead I’m using my work computer to play. I gave my son my old computer and he’s using it now. Nothing is wasted.

Fine then

aeronmelon , in San Andreas ROM for PS2 has been taken down by Rockstar on Vimm's Lair

Is it because that version of the game had the "hot coffee" code on the disc?

NabeGewell ,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe because it's superior to the version they are selling

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

The fun part is – it is superior because it includes missions you can do in coop unlike it's release on PC where they were cut. I don't remember if it could play your own music tho.

NabeGewell ,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Oh forgot about that, I was thinking of the graphics, which you cant get on PC without modding

Definitely check out Zelda Minish Cap, I think it's up there with Link to the Past

thesilverpig ,

I really liked a lot about the minish cap but the gacha game heart piece and the fact that you leave one of the three goddesses unhoused felt very antethitical to Zelda. Almost perfect otherwise.
