Such a well-written and worthwhile read from @GottaLaff: "I’m old, I’ve seen a lot. I’ve protested a lot. I’ve marched, demonstrated, and have been tear-gassed. I’ve written, vocalized, called, emailed, tweeted, used my voice on radio and podcasts for years and years...Yet here I am and here we are. And right about now I, like many of you, am feeling pretty unheard, pretty impotent, and definitely not funny."

@BlueBeachSong@GottaLaff You are not alone, BBS. Two years ago my husband and I moved to Belgium, same reasons and same sort of lovely people and place. Safer for now. Still US citizens. Very best wishes to you!
@GottaLaff@BlueBeachSong I made the same move in 2002, from NYC to Vancouver. Partially it was fallout from 9-11, partially it was because I hated working on Wall Street, and partially it was because I fell in love and followed my wife to be. Best decision I ever made.
@BlueBeachSong@GottaLaff Friendly reminder: for most Americans, but especially older people, permanent residency Canada is not an option. Without an pre-existing connection, there is no way to score high enough.
@GottaLaff@BlueBeachSong If Iunderstand correctly, you wrote: "…For example, Mr. Laffy is a TV producer with a good income. We found out that the company that owns his show “Naked and Afraid” is based… in Canada!"
@AlaskaWx@BlueBeachSong Yes, but that’s not a strong connection and adds zero points. Family ties are. + He didn’t work directly for that conglomerate. It was a happy coincidence so we exploited it as best we could. Our immigration lawyer thinks what gave us enough points were his vocation and paycheck. Canada wants show biz people.
