A package came today, and when my husband gave it too me I very clearly said "I didn't buy any ants" but do you know what he said back??

"What kind of queen is it?"

The nerve! I just CLEARLY said that is NOT what was in the box. How could he?

(It's Formica subsericea)

@futurebird I'm quite amazed at the existence of ant shops!

@futurebird Oh, it was a gift?!!

From me to me. LOL.
I wasn't going to buy any queens this year, but I got impatient. And I don't feel bad about buying common species like this that are just hard to find in NEW YORK CITY. (We do have ants, but not "field ants" ... and I can't afford to camp out upstate for three months looking for nuptials. )

@futurebird If you ever find yourself in coastal Maine, let me know. We have so many ants. And so many rocks to look under.

@sbourne

I may well do!

@futurebird I didn't know USPS allows live ants to be sent through post. I think the UPU regulations only specify live bees.

@riley

You can get a permit and mine were sent with one. The better ant shops always have them. There are strict rules about what species can be sent where.
