Thinking closer to home... the same one who created animals that can literally be multiple genders, or have no gender at all and reproduce asexually, is really keen for everything to operate as simple binary systems all the time with absolutely no shades of gray.
There are really only a few options to make this work in one's head:
Decide to compartmentalize your life so hard that cognitive dissonance is impossible
Decide you don't really believe anything but maintaining a certain societal order benefits you personally so INSIST on the correctness of the thing you don't personally believe.
Lobotomize yourself
Come to the understanding that life is really weird and whatever, whomever created it is very creative and maybe a bit weird, too
