the main voting proposition for Biden in 2020 primaries was "negative-charisma apparatchiks and the donor class will rebel and sabotage the party if you pick anyone else"

now those same people ARE sabotaging the party, more or less out of the blue, because of dumb op-eds and backroom chatter

(there were, of course, other reasons people supported him, too, but imo a lot of favorability stuff is downstream of core democratic constituencies being pretty sensitive to "we don't want the rich white people that control the actual party apparatus to stab us in the back")

@saddestrobots I do feel like one of the appeals Biden made in 2020 was that he wouldn't seek a second term, and while nothing specific was said it felt kind of assumed that Harris would run in 2024 if he was telling the truth?

It seemed like kind of an insane thing for a candidate to say, but also he was super old even then, and Harris felt like a fine tolerable choice if we were already willing to lower our expectations for Biden.

The whole "it can't be harris it has to be some white guy" thing feels truly insane though. Besides that just seeming like a terrible strategy for an elecetion, k-hive will kill people. There will be murders.

i pretty much hate all these people and the political system they represent, but, like—

biden's own vice presidency got effortlessly turned into "he's the president's best friend and ideological successor!" but almost none of the political sausage-makers seem willing to give harris the same treatment? pretty sus
