So you know how the mid-atlantic/trans-atlantic accent used in a lot of old movies was a fake/invented accent that nobody really used? Well, apparently that's complete bullshit, and it was a real accent that upper class people from the East Coast of the US really spoke with. @BathysphereHat I once manned the phones for my college's phone banks, and I got an answering machine whose message used that EXACT accent. I was so astonished I hung up and then made everyone else phone-banking at the office call the number and listen to the answering machine.
