My ebooks and audiobooks (from Tor Books, Head of Zeus, McSweeneys, Beacon, Verso and others) are for sale all over the net, but I sell 'em too, and when you buy 'em from me, I earn twice as much and you get books with no DRM and no license "agreements."
If you prefer a newsletter, subscribe to the plura-list, which is ad-/tracker-free, and is utterly unadorned save a single daily emoji. Today's is "🥼". Suggestions solicited for future emojis!

The Honest Govt Ad is very good, and I don't wish to be a smartarse but I listened to a Sam Harris podcast at least 4 years ago, possibly longer. He was in discussion with a very clued up fellah in the field and the main message was 'We should be discussing the ethical aspects right now, now when it's on stream.'
Sadly, not many were listening I guess.
@pluralistic I've been wondering for some time whether or not the unrealistic certainty of greatness is a natural response for the youth or something imposed by society to try to get them to rush to do what society wants/needs them to do. It may be a chicken/egg situation, I suppose, but I've noticed how heavily some commercials lean into this "you're choosing this car because you're better" attitude, which may simply be capitalizing on the mood.
