Our rulers have known since 1970 — for over half a century! — that burning more fossil fuels would release dangerous emissions and radically alter Earth's climate.

And what action have they taken in response?

None at all, except carrying on with Business As Usual.

I would argue that the action taken was to deny that fossil fuels were negatively changing the climate, while those very same companies reaped enormous profits.

@zeerphling @breadandcircuses of course, their entire approach to it was to keep the truth from the public, and once the truth was out to keep denying it and even to fund denial groups.

And yet, somehow people still claim that the economic and political system we have now is working for all of us.

@zeerphling @breadandcircuses We must keep seeing it for what it is, pure establishment propaganda

@breadandcircuses So how can we expect them to change now? Half of them were not even alive in the 1970s.
And they’re more indoctrinated in the ways that capitalism sells them a fix for the symptoms of every problem: pills for high blood pressure, insurance for storm damage and larger air conditioners for excessive heat.
