@luckytran Washington Post November 10, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. EST The women were clubbed, beaten and tortured by the guards at the Occoquan Workhouse. The 33 suffragists from the National Woman’s Party had been arrested Nov. 10, 1917, while picketing outside the White House for the right to vote.
...Dorothy Day, who would later establish the Catholic Worker houses, had her arm twisted behind her back and was slammed twice over the back of an iron bench.
@luckytran why they banned striking in Australia. It was a disruptive protest that was working. Now unless certain stringent vonditions tour union and even individuals can face hundreds of thousands to millions in fines!
@luckytran Women got the vote in California by convincing the legislature to put an initiative on the ballot and after an intense campaign it passed 125,037 to 121,450.
So I'm not convinced by the Marxist inspired idea that the oppressor can't be convinced and needs to be dealt with via violence. And this is what Palestinians supporters have been calling for for 75 years, has not worked at all.
@luckytran Of which the US should be very familiar. Boston tea party, for instance. It is literally the foundation of the country. It truly is amazing to see protests in that country not being respected.
@luckytran The right to protest is enshrined in the First Amendment to the Constitution. I expect to see it VIGOROUSLY defended against administrative overreach.
