Senate passes $95 billion package with aid for Ukraine and Israel, setting up showdown with the House ( edition.cnn.com )

The Senate passed a $95.3 billion foreign aid bill with assistance for Ukraine and Israel in a vote early Tuesday morning, setting up a showdown with the House as Speaker Mike Johnson has criticized the legislation.

The foreign aid package includes billions of dollars to support Ukraine and for security assistance for Israel, as well as humanitarian assistance for civilians in Gaza, the West Bank and Ukraine, among other priorities. It’s unclear whether Johnson would hold a vote on it and many House Republicans are opposed to further aid to Ukraine.

The bill passed the Senate despite Johnson’s criticism of the legislation and former President Donald Trump signaling opposition to the bill by arguing the US should stop providing foreign aid unless it is in the form of a loan. The Senate vote was 70 to 29 with 22 Republicans voting in favor, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The whole damn thing needs to be scraped. They dont need our money, we do.

US aid is usually a loan anyway. The US doesn't give military stuff away to other countries without putting them in debt.

Its money laundering to the MIC and capitalists. It all needs to stop

70 to 29?? Trump only has 26 Republiclowns in his greasy pocket??

i for one would have preferred a bill that only funded ukraine. or funded ukraine and palestine, as they are both indigenous populations desperately struggling to fend off invasive, malignant, foreign, imperialist powers. but oh well. ain't up to me.

I'm no expert on that matter, but I can imagine problems getting a bill passed with support for Ukraine only and even more so for a bill with support for Ukraine and Palestine.
Apparently supporting Ukraine has a price beyond money sigh

As much as I hate that Israel gets a dime of our money, I doubt Republicans would have been on board with a bill that funded Ukraine but not Israel.
