He doesn’t ascribe the rise of Trump solely to a lumpen mass of redneck working-class Americans, deplorables to borrow a phrase. “I do not believe that all of Trump’s supporters are racist or sexist or homophobes. I think what’s going on in this country is a belief that the government is failing ordinary Americans.”

This is the money quote in the article. Biden and the Democrats have ignored the poor and middle class, and to such an extent that people are not going to care that Trump is a fascist. They're only going to care that he is the agent of change.

The challenge is to be able to show people that government in a democratic society can address their very serious needs. If we do that, we defeat Trump

This is a good one too, but Democrats aren't going to do it. They're owned by the same rich assholes that own Republicans, and those assholes are making them rich in exchange for keeping the rest of us poor.

Brutal truth.

Melkath ,

Unless he said "I am renouncing my affiliation with the Democrat party and am running for the office of President of the United States again" then whatever he says is incorrect.

yoevli ,

He might as well just hand the election to Trump at that point. I mean, I get it, wrong lizard and what not, but in the real world that's really the only option in the immediate term.

Melkath ,

"Orange evil man scary. Must vote supervillain sunglasses evil man. Only way. Oonga Booga."

You are trying to stop Trump, and you are only setting up Biden to lose to Trump.

yoevli ,

What an insane message to take away from my comment.

Melkath ,

Maybe I was misunderstanding your comment.

Were you not shilling for Biden?

yeahiknow3 ,

As opposed to shilling for Trump? Or are you too young to understand the concept of difficult choices and their consequences.

Melkath ,

I assure you I'm not young, and assure you shilling for anyone is the death of a government.

In even a restrictive democratic Republic, a person worth voting for is worth voting for.

And in America, a Democrat not worth voting for loses.

That means a Democrat worth voting for must be produced, or America had outgrown a binary system.

In even a restrictive democratic Republic, a person worth voting for is worth voting for.

What is the point of voting for someone who has no reasonable chance of winning vs. just staying home?

You know what's worse than shilling for an individual person? Shilling for chaos. Go away.

yoevli ,

The comment literally calls him a lizard. Stop looking for a fight.

This exchange illustrates the issue at the heart of American politics.

Clown.

SatanicNotMessianic ,

Hey Bernie - the MOTs still have your back. If you put on the parka and ask for more money, I’m good for a couple hundred. I’ve got Bernie tee shirts, Bernie posters, Bernie getting arrested, Bernie sticking up for the LGBT…

And, my hand to the god that I do not believe in, if and when I adopt a sphynx cat, he or she will be named Bernie.

NoIWontPickaName ,

I’ve never duty money to a politician before, but I would start for him, only if he ran independent though

It's not really worth it to donate to a political campaign anymore. The Kochs and Soroses of the world have virtually unlimited means to drown out your voice.

As cynical as it may sound, I tell people to take those donations and put them in your own investments instead. No matter who we elect, you can basically guarantee your investments will get representation in Washington.

SatanicNotMessianic ,

I appreciate the input, but I doubt Koch or Soros are making big donations to Bernie, Warren, AOC, or the other pols I send a few bucks to.

Second, I do have plenty of money in my own investments at this point. That’s part of the reason I am making donations. I do end up sending more money to organizations like Planned Parenthood, HRC, the Trevor Project, and the Matthew Shepard fund. I also send money to the ACLU and EFF, among others.

I don’t entirely disagree with your main point, but there are local and national causes and politicians that can use financial support. Ideally we wouldn’t have to do it, but as things stand it’s not a terrible idea.
