I don't mind waiting for things to be fixed what with life interfering with things, but I can't find any activity from Ernest lately. He hasn't been, like... hit by a bus or anything terrible like that, has he?

Noticed I got banned by the admins from lemmy.world shower thoughts yesterday. The admins have an interesting reason though....

Is there any way we, as users, can help deal with the waves of spam-meds-bots? When I get the chance I downvote, but that's not possible for microblog. Do reporting them have any effect, or they go in the pile and are more a nuisance than a help?...

3 or 4 spam "Buy Phloboxidril Now In Your Area" posts per day were tolerable. 20 to 50 aren't. I know I could block the magazine, but I'm just one of the many who are subjected to it....

This post doesn't directly affect kbin.social users, but it is relevant. It discusses some of the potential pros/cons of Kbin and the pros/cons of Mbin, and also the direction the kbin.earth server is heading.

I'm feeling a bit better. Starting today, I'll be returning to work as much as possible. I can only get my subscriptions and not the all feed. I feel like maybe I am only getting kbin content.

Feeling thwarted by the 404, I suddenly remembered there are plenty of curated feeds over in Collections for us to browse. Have updated one of mine to reflect newer communities.

@Ernest has pushed an update which allows users to request ownership/moderation of abandoned magazines. Ghost/abandoned magazines were fairly prevalent after the initial wave of hype due to users either squatting magazine names or becoming inactive for other reasons. Now is your chance to get involved, if you were waiting to do...

I just realized that some features like "Collections" are not available in other Kbin instances nor in Mbin when in theory they all use 0.10.1....

We'll still get their content but be unable to interact.

I think that's cool. I have not discovered a limit to how large you can make the box.

I wrote the first line of code for /kbin on January 14, 2021. Around this time, I started working remotely and decided that the time I used to spend commuting to the office would be devoted to /kbin. Throughout this entire period, /kbin has been a hobby project that I developed in my free time. It was also when Lemmy started...

A lot of the larger abandoned magazines are just spam pools now. I don't see their posts in my feed, but I don't like that the two sidesbars of random posts and threads are now just spam advertising sidebars. I triedblocking the magazines, but doesn't that prevent the posts from showing in those sidebars....

Over the next few weeks, we're facing another server change. I'm doing everything to optimize costs and prepare the instance for long-term operation. More details are available on the status page I'm currently working on....
