The 369th Infantry, a segregated African-American unit that served in WW1 with great distinction under French command. They got the nickname due to their extended stay in the trenches, with a reputation for aggressive behavior and bravery in the face of the enemy. They were highly decorated by both the French and the US.

Man, there is so much pain in the eyes of those men. It's impossible for me to view this photo and not wonder about the horrors viewed through those eyes.
