The current fascination with skins and cosmetics is hilarious. It’s ridiculous that people continue to put money and time into a game mechanic that was already perfected with the catboy costume. If you’re playing a game and you aren’t using a free catboy costume, why are you even playing that game? Secondarily, your opinion is worthless, stop wasting drive space on my internet by posting it.
You dare doubt my enjoyment of catboys? Do you even understand who you’re talking to?? If you EVER suggest that I am even NEUTRAL to programmer socks and midriffs, I will come down on you like the semiflaccid, freshly shaven hammer of Thor. You mark my FUCKING WORDS.
You’re right actually, but because I don’t own a headset. I’m hearing impaired. lol
If I were to pick a headset, it’d probably lack cat ears. Visual accessories that no one will see aren’t my jam and I’m definitely not taking them outside so I can get hate crimed by a chud. I apologize, it takes a certain mood for me to get into character and molesty grandpa is hard.
Devs are like that because publishers says they should do it. And publishers are like that because people keep buying and paying for all that shit. So in the end they are like that because of OP who contributes to the FOMO and wants to throw money at them for cosmetics.
God, you are so much better than OP. Always used the default costumes (humility); never opened a single lootbox, even the free ones—really just the best kind of person. I-I know this is a bit unusual to do in public (gosh, I'm nervous), but I just wanted to say: Thank you for your service.
Somewhere else where it's going to end up the same. The industry is shit with this kind of practice, devs can go wherever they want, sure. Assuming this is true, which I have my doubts on, it doesn't matter if everywhere is doing the same thing.
The goalpost is still not having stuff like this just because some asshoIe somewhere wants more money.
And nothing will actually change if workers keep sucking it up and doing the unethical garbage they are told to do. If complaining to them did anything, this wouldn't be a problem in the first place.
Workers need to eat from every industry. The issue is almost never with them. Let me ask you this, do you have the same level of hate towards the cashiers at Walmart? Or the waiters at the restaurants you go to? No, probably not, so why this unique level of anger towards devs?
So it's because they have a better paying job? Because they earn better than the cashiers and thus "don't have to worry" about food, so they can do what they want? Software devs are still pretty trash paid, compared again, to the execs. They have a bit more wiggle room than a service industry worker, sure, but by no means "fuck you" money, except the one-in-a-million. They're working class just like you and me and all the service industry people. Aim your anger at the dudes in fancy suits and more 0s in their bank account than anyone should reasonably have.
Pretty much. The more money you make, all other things being equal, the more time you can spend between jobs without food running out. I specifically said they are less worried not that they are free to stop working willy nilly. Moreover strikes and similar protests can be organized in a way to make this less impactful.
Again I swear I have no huge anger for these people, but I hope you realize these things are not mutually exclusive. Meaning anger alone won't fix the problem with execs. Having devs refuse to purposefully build software that is invasive, addictive or whatever it is, can and will hurt execs.
Workers that are better paid in the first place are in a better position to do this, yes, and would work better than simply raging at the execs.
This all sounds like you just want someone else to start the fight. If anything, the more downtrodden and more numerous low-earning people have much more reason to strike and start fighting back, and will affect more change. Their jobs are actually required for our society to continue functioning, unlike most dev work, particularly game dev.
I don't have an issue with most of the actual content of what you said. The only issue I have is that it's kinda counterproductive. Realistically, all of these groups need to rise against the people making the decisions. They WANT us to be angry at the people they're giving commands. The top class wants the middle and lower fighting each other.
Yeah honestly fuck anyone making video games that have microtransactions, they should risk homelessness and destitution before they make a game where you have to pay for costumes
I for one would sooner die than contribute to a game with seasonal content
LMAO nobody with a real programming background or industry experience in art is risking homelessness, unless they're at least a little less than mentally competent.
Tbh, I’m okay with exclusive (cosmetic) seasonal content.
Games are expensive. A good online multiplayer game requires a stable revenue source and a huge active player base. Seasonal content is one of less scummy ways to achieve both. It spreads the costs better than milking a small number of whales and it incentivizes the average player to play on the regular.
Imo, losing out on a skin cause you didn’t buy/play a specific season is decent trade off. You don’t need to own everything you want.
