I would be careful trusting everything said in this video and taking it at face value.

He touches on a broad range of different AI related news, but doesn't seem to fully grasp the technology himself (I'm basing this statement on his "evidence" from the 8 min mark).

He seems to be running a channel that's heavily centered on stock market related content. And it feels like he's putting his own spin on every topic he touches in this video.

Overall, it's not the worst video, but I would rather base my information from better informed sources.

What he should have done was to set the baseline by defining what AI actually is and then proceed to compare what these companies are doing with that definition. Instead we have a list of AI news stories covering Amazon Fresh Stores, Gemini, ChatGPT, and Copilot (powered by ChatGPT) and his own take on how those stories mean that everything is faked.

Dkarma , to Videos in Big Tech Is Faking AI

I can assure you by the systems they're ordering for AI specific workloads that they are indeed not even remotely faking AI.

This video should have more accurately been labelled, "Things that make AI Look Bad" rather than attempting to prove that AI was faked.

BmeBenji , to Videos in Big Tech Is Faking AI

AI was filmed on a soundstage in California. Sam Altman was played by Jesse Eisenberg. ChatGPT is just a recording of Mark Zuckerberg talking to himself in the mirror

No! Surely not

"one fraudulent company from India". Which part of this being Amazon's walk out technology makes it not big tech, or a "weak ai story"?

AI is turning out to be a lot less promising than we thought, unless new breakthroughs are made the models are plateauing or even getting worse, at least relative to the amount of energy they consume.. And companies like openai are in rush to sell you the idea for trillions of dollars before everyone realises the limits. Same as amazon trying to sell us Ai powered shopping.

This might be the most awfully absurd thing that could ever happen.

“We got perfectly capable humans doing that job pretending to be AIs so that we can sell more incapable AIs services, AND prevent the AI bubble from bursting. Gotta make some big $$$ out of this shit, 2008 style baby”

It's also worth noting that this is famous enough that Amazon has offered a service called Mechanical Turk since 2005.

The implementation and service are both fine in theory, but you do need to be clear that what's being paid for is humans pretending to be computers.

Nicotine is a drug. Like a lot of them, it has a range of effects. Some of them are pretty nice. You can't separate them from the giant mountain of bag effects, but still. Pretending that the only reason people ever smoked was addiction is dumb. It's why they kept smoking, but that's a whole nuther thing.

Man, a a good smoke when stressed helped. It didn't make the stress go away, but it it sure as hell sharpened focus and muted the sense of futility when a problem was overwhelming. I sure as hell won't ever smoke again, but I miss the hell out of that.

    MercurySunrise ,

I feel I can say with certainty that it helps me heavily with focus and energy. I've most primarily had issues quitting because of that. I have rather severe depression that I've not been willing to go to SSRI's to treat due to my interest in the arts. I possibly have ADD. I definitely have oral fixation (teehee). There's alot of neurochemical/psychological factors that can increase dependence on this drug just as any drug. It really is easier for some to quit than it is for others. If I had quit, I wouldn't have watched this video. I wouldn't be able to. You're tough! I hope you stay off it, yo. Nicotine's... pretty awful, as a drug. I don't personally see it as the worst, but it's definitely not great.

De_Narm , to Science in Smoking is Awesome [Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell]

I don't like the video to be honest. The first few minutes actually make smoking seem great even to me and I'm strongly against smoking. So much so, I dislike you as a person if you ever smoke in my vacinity.

Just imagine some kid seeing only those first few minutes. Some bad actor could even just take those few minutes and upload them separately to other platforms.

    kernelle ,

You wouldn't be able to start a video like that 10+ years ago, now though everyone knows smoking is bad for you. Even smokers know it, it's probably one of the most prevalent addictions. People wouldn't still be doing it after all this time and backlash if it didn't at least feel good.

That's the point they are making, smoking fucks up your natural balance by making you feel good, making you crave more and deteriorating your body in the process.

    De_Narm ,

Everyone may know about the dangers already, but I feel like the video has another dangerous point besides the initial first minutes. It tells you that you can stop after a few years and more or less fully recover (at least in terms of life expectancy). That may be factually correct (and a great point for people who already smoke), but in combination with the beginning can lead to people thinking they can smoke for let's say 10 years, it's awesome after all, and then just stop - underestimating how difficult that is, even though the video does say that too.

    kernelle ,

I've heard people say 'but my aunt smoked for 40 years and didn't have any health complications' in a fully unironic way. People will justify their smoking, but will also tell you they wish they'd never started because it is so difficult to quit so I agree with you point.

Now I've never used heroin, but that is the feeling people describe: euphoria, calmness and relief beyond anything you've experienced, to the point that you can't really think about anything else anymore. - I've read this many times and it makes me deeply uneasy. That sentence should make anyone revolt, but many people will be drawn in by this description just the same.

In much lesser ways ofcourse that is how people talk about smoking, but I think the point of the video is no substance should be altering your state of mind, but it's never to late to quit.

They made it edgy, risky play but I think it will be effective.

Ignoring whether it's realistic or not, would a good solution be a law saying that landlords may only earn profits from rents that are people's second (ie. not primary) homes?

You must be new to comedy, and more specifically, The Daily Show.

just_another_person , to Videos in Josh Johnson Learns Just How Rich People Avoid Paying Taxes | The Daily Show

This Josh guy is new, but has something about him that just gets me chuckling before a "punchline" lands. He's very dry like an NPR host, but just dark as hell every time on simple delivery and cadence of very basic words. He's not making "jokes" exactly, but his humor is definitely in his behavior and mannerisms. That slow, dead stare and slight turn into the camera when the tax guy says "you can die" was fucking gold.

    ivanafterall ,

I thought the guest was great. He leaned into it just enough.

    Corkyskog ,

His stand up is really, really good. He has some of the best timing of any current comedian I am familiar with.
