Trump leans into voter fraud playbook, preparing to cry foul if he loses expected Biden rematch ( apnews.com )

After he won the New Hampshire Republican primary Tuesday night, former President Donald Trump complained about his main GOP rival, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, about immigration, inflation, and his likely opponent in November, President Joe Biden....

Trump’s increasing flubs risk blunting a major edge: Mental sharpness ( wapo.st )

At a campaign rally Monday, Trump struggled to enunciate his view that drug dealers should get the death penalty. He initially failed to pronounce “smallest,” and then added, “We are an institute in a powerful death penalty. We will put this on.”...

It’s amazing and truly a victory of propaganda that anyone ever thought this incoherent imbecile ever had an edge on “sharpness”.

Weird, this week they’re also claiming that TwitX has 24 times the engaged users of YouTube.

Advertisers surely know he's full of crap, too. He can make up fake views, he could even have bots click on ads, but unless he's also going to fake being a customer it will all come out in metrics. Savvy advertisers track all of that. Clicks per display, sales per click.

Double Barreled Wheellock Pistol Belonging to Emperor Charles V (1500s) ( lemmy.world )

One of the earliest pistols, this firearm was designed and produced by Peter Peck, a maker of watches and guns. The two locks combined in one mechanism provided the barrels with separate ignition. Made for Emperor Charles V (reigned 1519–56), the pistol is decorated with his dynastic and personal emblems: the double-headed...

Kroger typically just operates one chain per region, which was a local chain they bought out for expansion. They don’t have multiple stores in an area that compete with each other or have different names.

zeppo ,
@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

Huh, so they might do that in some places. What I meant is that I'm not familiar with them doing things like operating comparable stores in the same area. I guess I recall QFC vs. Fred Meyer from when I lived in Portland, and QFCs were small while Fred Meyers is set up like Target - large selection of non grocery items, and huge stores. In Colorado they have City Markets (small) and King Soopers (large) but City Market is up in small towns in the mountains and Western Slope, none in Denver, and King Soopers is all over Denver, none afaik in the smaller cities.

I mean, no shit. He’s basically running as an incumbent as far as advantage and the rest of the field isn’t very impressive. Are you rooting for him to win or just complaining about media coverage?

”This order is simply more communist persecution of a supporter of President Trump and a follower of Jesus Christ.”

Back in reality, he was being investigated for his unhinged statements and other complaints with the potential for disbarment in Georgia, and asked the bar there to “retire” his license. They close the investigations and said sure, and you can’t practice law here or anywhere else. Colorado is following the practice of their federal courts, that he’s not allowed to practice law in CO as he’s not in good standing in other jurisdictions.

It's natural for him. He couldn't read a speech and sound good at all, and he sure as hell couldn't talk about policy for a couple hours. The content of what he says is jingoistic, self-aggrandizing, vindictive, often nonsensical and generally awful, but that works great for his target audience, who have been raised on pastors saying nonsensical crap and outlets like Fox who were talking nasty nonsense years before Trump was a politician.

Taiwan doesn't even officially support Taiwan independence. It would be rather unusual for a US President to say that before they do.

Travellers are being told to avoid isolated locations like hotel rooms.
Criminals use the apps to lure victims to public spaces like restaurants and bars, where they can be assaulted,

So... no public spaces, and not private either?

zeppo ,

The wall was a very unrealistic idea all along, so of course it wasn't built. Trump didn't care. It was a campaign device and a grift. The border is huge, and it would take a very long time to build a permanent wall, plus the funding - anyone with an IQ over room temp knew "Mexico will pay for it" was absurd.

But sure, I can't imagine Muslims wanting to vote for Biden either. But considering Trump is an out-and-out racist asshole, well, great. As for most of the rest of the country there are no good choices here.

Is there any greentext these days that doesn’t start with a Pepe?

zeppo ,
@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

That’s what the corporations think will happen. But that’s not how consumers actually react. This is so typical of braindead conservative thinking though in how they think that anyone who disagrees with them is just jumping on a bandwagon,. easily manipulated or 'virtue signaling'.

I have not at all noticed any shortage of generic dudebros.

So… I’d agree that sounds gross if true, not sure if it’s dangerous though. But what about the US agricultural practice of fertilizing crops like lettuce with sewage solids?

Yes, that's what the article says.

Oh damn, if it's anything like my recent Linux dist-upgrades it will reboot and the sound card won't work.

zeppo ,

The tactics and attitudes definitely make me think of that. It seems like the same people who showed up and fucked up a bunch of subs on reddit 6-7 years ago, like how conspiracy went from discussing things like UFOs and MK ULTRA to conservative political conspiracy theories and opposing the Democratic Party and politicians.

zeppo ,
@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

No, I didn't intend any meaning like that. I just said it was the sort of thing discussed on the sub prior to a bunch of bullshit.

zeppo ,
@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

Seems reasonable to me. It’s strange to me how these people hate US liberals, never say a word about US conservatives, and love Russia and China, despite none of those things being in line with their professed beliefs.

zeppo ,
@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

Right, I understand that distinction, but their philosophy doesn't make sense or hold consistence even in that context. The highest scorn is reserved for the most socialist American politicians, and American conservatives are pretty much 100% in line with the politics of Russia, other than gun control. Also, it makes no sense to revere China and Russia due to their governments being communist 60 years ago, because they are not now. Most of the discussion seems to be about foreign policy with little regard given to workers' rights or economics.

I> Remember to criticise ideas, and not people.

That’s a nice guideline. I kept trying to explain that to my recent ex… the vast difference between saying “this behavior is unproductive” vs. “you are unproductive”.

We got to know each other well prior to her conversion. She took a strict vow of silence, excluding “crisps”. We still talk. It’s impressive how much she can express with inflection.

I’m still confused that people don’t realize this. It’s not an oracle. It’s a program that generates sentences word by word based on statistical analysis, with no concept of fact checking. It’s even worse that someone actually did a study instead of simply acknowledging or realizing that ChatGPT is happy to just make stuff up.

Pretty decent thing to do. When I was a website developer, around 2012 I dealt with a mentally unstable friend/client who one day started seeing porn ads on a blog that he asked me to fix up on behalf of someone else. He freaked out "NICK CAN'T SEE THAT, OMG". I looked at the site on 4 different devices from 3 IP addresses and didn't see what he was talking about. Since it was my job to figure this out, I asked some people we knew on a forum "will you please look at this site and let me know if you see any porn ads?" 25 people responded that no, they did not. Okay. So I told him, hey, I had everyone on our forum check it out and it's fine, so it has to be a virus on your computer or something. He got super angry and told me it was VERY embarrassing to him that I did that (like, wtf was I supposed to do?). Eventually someone figured out he had a hacked router.

For some unsolicited advice, you could do better with networking on Instagram through hashtags, following similar people and browsing their work. I posted desolate building photos for 2-3 years and ended up with ~500 followers, which isn’t really much but a lot more than 23.

They have made the algorithm steadily worse over the years, though. Back in 2013-2014 people I knew from a niche art community ended up with 5-50k and since then it has slowed down a huge amount. People whose followers increased by 20,000 from 2014-2016 have increased by maybe 3,000 in the subsequent 7 years.

@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

If you want people to see your work, you have to find the popular hashtags for your niche. Check out photos by people who post similar stuff and see what they use. For my stuff I could have labeled them #door #abandonedbuilding or #oldstorefront but the tags in popular use are more like #facadelovers #windowshiding and #ihavethisthingwithwalls.
