Thunderstorm day.

Small brown mutt, hiding from Thor, god of thunder, under a chair below the kitchen table, which is in a two story house with metal roof surrounded by taller trees and buildings. He doesn't feel it's quite safe enough and looks concerned. His paws are tucked in under him and his eyebrows creased in worry.

    Laptop stand done. Happy with the result.

    Far from perfect, there's plugged holes, woodstain blotches, warping and tearout, but it looks good enough, works really well and is a major upgrade from the plastic box.

    Made from old sawmill scrap I recut on the table saw.

    Great learning experience. There's a splined miter, dowels, lap joints and lots of edge glued planks.

    I didn't buy anything to make this. Okay, I bought a piano hinge but didn't use it 😁

Behind, the "hinge" is visible, which consists of a short piece of wood lap-jointed to the same piece as the leg and prevents the table from sliding out forwards by resting against the crossbeam.

    A wooden laptop stand, finished in a dark, reddish exterior woodstain. A laptop sits on the hinged part, which is angled up to raise the screen and bring it closer to the user. The width of the stand is designed to fit a full size keyboard, which results in a raised side-table on which a phone sits. The previously shown side table with tunnel for mouse cable contains some plush animals and office accessories.

    Don't want to waste any precious hardwood to make a quick & dirty drill guide?

    Just use one of those nasty big knots that aren't good for much else. Because they're plenty hard! :)

    Straight through the knot with the drill press (which is in the garage) and now I can use this knot to make straight holes anywhere with my hand drill. The bottom is flat.

    The insanity of lawns still boggles my mind every summer.

    Mowing down the pretty flowers that are just growing there on their own, because that's the goddamn lawn and only grass is allowed there (but only this tall and no filthy flowering allowed).

    While also buying seeds, fertilizer and spending time weeding and pampering those pretty flowers over there in the planter.

    More fun #Chicken facts:

    These chickens are giving me the side-eye. The closest ones look at me with their right eye, the ones further away with their left eye.

    This is because the right eye is nearsighted and the left eye is far-sighted - so when they get closer, the head switches sides.

    Chickens can also see UV light, so they perceive more of the spectrum than humans, but they have extremely poor nightvision and thus go to bed (roost) early.

    Well, I spoke too soon with the RC2014. Definitely some things wrong with it. But hey, way more of it works first try than I expected!

    Now for the fun** part: figuring out what's wrong... despite me not owning an oscilloscope.

    @vampiress Still happy with my DSO203, does everything I want, small and portable, the builtin signal generator has been handy at times, the probes are of a decent quality.

    I think mine was an original, although there's oodles of clones available now due to popularity.

    Living in London, I had many international friends. I was slightly worried about introducing my Lebanese friend and my Israeli friend though.

    Needn't have worried, they immediately bonded over shared childhood memories.

    @vampiress Ocean's 11 is my favourite feel-good movie that I've seen countless times and still enjoy every time. I watch it when I'm sick or sad and it works :)

    12 has Zeta-Jones looking beautiful, which is good enough. The plot is on the weak side and quite confusing the first time around. French snob gets one-upped, ok.

    13 I barely remember. Oh yeah, bad casino mogul revenge #2. Meh.

    Haven't gotten around to watching 8 yet, mostly because I'm rubbish at getting around to watching things.

    @vampiress Superglue! Cannot recommend it enough for annoying cuts that you wish were closed right now.

    Yes, that's what it is really for. Yes, you can get medical grade superglue if you're worried about stuff. File off any sharp edges that catch on things.

    @vampiress Well, it had a VT240, but yeah. Hooked up to a serial port and just spewing the syslog of my desktop machine. It was actually nice to have like that!

    Also you could summon a getty and log in and kill X11 whenever it choked horribly.
