E-bikes are very cool and I'm glad they are getting popular.

However.

There is a big difference between a crash at 12mph and one at 20mph.

Your ebike can give you injuries normally only found in motorcycle accidents. And there isn't enough advice on what constitutes sufficient maintenance for ebikes.

If you don't get balding tires fixed on a regular bike you could fall off and bruise or break a leg.

At ebike speeds that same fall will shatter your leg in dozens of pieces.

BE CAREFUL

@futurebird Community note: "balding" tires are not an issue on a bicycle on tarmac/concrete. The reason car tires need treading is because otherwise aquaplaning occurs; aquaplanning is not possible with bicycle tire widths/speeds. Sleek (treadless) tires work just fine.

Things are a bit different with sand, mud or snow, but that's not a common commute issue; and while important with mountain bikes, downhill speeds are the same for regulars and e-bikes anyway.

@futurebird "Smooth is dangerous" is simply not true for bicycle tires. It very much depends on a surface.

Knobby mountain bike tire will have worse traction and driving capabilities on hard asphalt than a sleek treadless tire - because the knobs bend and there's less contact area.

Sleeks are absolutely fine for city commute (assuming well-maintained roads).

When the #water runs dry: Why #France is freaking out over a tiny Swiss dam

"Water-rich #Switzerland controls Western Europe’s taps — and wants it to stay that way. Its drought-ridden neighbors are getting nervous."

https://www.politico.eu/article/when-the-water-runs-dry-why-france-is-freaking-out-over-a-tiny-swiss-dam/

Reminders:

  1. Switzerland is not part of the EU.
  2. Switzerland will have serious water problems once the glaciers have melted.

@CelloMomOnCars What really bugs me is how seemingly reluctant the French are to build dry cooling facilities for their nuclear power plants, just for the use during the hot summer plants.

This sounds way less costly than big power shortages they're facing regularly.

The attack was called in to police right away.... Police didn't arrive for an hour... Hmm.

I suspect the four gumen were Russian FSB soldiers operating on orders from Putin... If you study the video you can tell they were calm, cool, collected, knew how to use the weapons. They were in no hurry to leave...

Makes one think....

The first minutes of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall

@faab64 @Free_Press Go read about the 1999 staged Russin apartment bombings.

@faab64 @Free_Press You didn't get to the part where there were three FSB officers arrested and then released because the bombs they planted were "sugar", did you?

Which does not in any way mean there weren't any non-false flag acts of terror in Muscovy. Just that Putin is well capable of orchestrating such if that suits him.

Spent the last couple of hours updating my PS3 that had been boxed up for about 10 years or so, and recovering my forgotten US account.
Why, you ask?

Well, to finally do something which I had been planning for over a decade but never actually did.

To buy the two SMT Devil Summoner Raidou games, the second which never came out in Europe. 👹
Grabbed Grandia 3 as well as Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. 🥰

Bit of a mess to get funds to the console nowadays, but it's done.

@chris @OutofPrintArchive I'm eagerly waiting for the EU to step in and introduce a way to "kindly" ask the seller to remove all DRM shit so the owner can use the content freely on their devices.
