For anyone on iOS, you can do most of this there too. On older iPhones you need a lightning to USB-A adapter you can get on AliExpress for like $3, but on USB-C iPhones it works directly.

The Files app has become like a full file manager, with local storage, unzipping, archiving, SMB connections, as well as most cloud storage services connect to it. Download Keka from the App Store and you can even unpack 7z, ISOs, everything you can do on a desktop.

Yep. To turn the tables, is anyone going to stop you if you order a well-done steak and douse it in ketchup? Probably not unless you’re at a very high end establishment, but will it come off as uncultured, rude to the chef and raise a few eyebrows? You bet.

Likewise, there are Italian places where they will outright refuse to cut your pizza for you or to put parmesan on seafood pasta. British high tea is loaded with rules for serving and consumption order. Lots of cultures have these rules and expectations.

This is a helpful guide to general politeness and etiquette in a culture that highly prizes those things. It’s meant to be helpful to those who care. Why people are shitting on it as some show of defiance is beyond me and comes off childish as all hell.

No problem. It’s a more common term in Canada, so I’ve been seeing it since I was in high school which was like 15 years ago. In my head the “long” LGBT string has always been 2SLGBTQIA+ but I realize the “2S” part isn’t as well known.

I bought a 2DS on AliExpress. It was fine, original shell but a little scratched up. JP model. One dead pixel.

$211CAD so about $150USD. I’d do it again, I didn’t end up using it much as I had plans for it that didn’t pan out but I had no issues with it.

This is so funny to me. Destroying Twitter aside, why does he think a payments app is something anyone wants?

Americans have Facebook Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, Zelle and probably a dozen others that I don’t know about.

Canada has Interac e-transfer to any from any bank account for free, so these payment apps don’t even try to expand here. China has WeChat, Japan has Suica and a couple others, I just don’t get it.

This is a solved problem in basically every country. Giving Americans one more payment app they won’t use tied to a dying service that even at its peak very few used doesn’t seem like it will have any impact at all.

If you wore a shirt that says “there is no god” you would likely be sent home. It’s antagonistic, regardless of how you feel on the issue.

I know if I was a 7th grader and this stupid little shit and his dickhead friends wore this into class, I would feel it was equally antagonistic, except far worse because it seeks to upset a minority that is already going through the wringer.

It runs contrary to the purpose of a school, which is to educate. Your other examples are more of a case-by-case thing, but if a Christian student said they were offended by that shirt, then the student might be asked to not wear it in the future.

Wow what a disappointing headline. I actually gasped and was so excited, turns out it’s another hard-to-find recreation.

I can already spend $100USD and get them from Lofty Pursuits. What I was hoping for was the original; which is what the headline said.

It also doesn’t help that this is a self-selecting group. I know I wouldn’t trust anyone who says this what they want in a partner, as the venn diagram between partners who want this and those who treat their partners poorly has more than a little overlap. Like cops and domestic abuse.

shinratdr , to Games in What is the point of Xbox?
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

I think the studio closures was just the last straw. Like they spent almost $100 billion and they’ve made NOTHING. Like not one goddamn thing.

Say what you will about Sony and Nintendo but they have output and they care about gaming because they have to, it’s the only way they make money.

Microsoft could shutter their gaming division tomorrow and they would save money, not lose it. Whatever exec championed the buyouts for Game Pass is clearly gone or asleep at the wheel. So the end result is they own WoW, Candy Crush and CoD that print money and a bunch of franchises that haven’t seen a good release in 10+ years.

The fact that they bought inExile, Obsidian and Bethesda and didn’t immediately start work on a Fallout 1/2 remake or an FNV sequel is evidence enough they they have no fucking clue what they’re doing. How does a company own so many studios and make no games!?

AliExpress isn’t the problem here. This is fake Shopify sites spun up and down in a matter of days that only exist to harvest info and payment. I’ve placed dozens of AliExpress orders, I always get what I ordered even from new stores.

shinratdr , to A Boring Dystopia in Mean world syndrome has reacted a fever pitch.
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

Yep. Just try and logic people to death instead of wondering why they feel that way and taking it to heart to try and not be part of the problem.

If people actually had this choice, we all know most would choose a person over a bear. But it does speak to the fact that people have mostly good experiences with wild animals that are supposed to be a danger to them and lots of bad experiences with random men. They’ve felt threatened and have actually been assaulted by men, and not by bears.

Your chances of being killed by a bear are slim to none. Meanwhile the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the US is homicide. These are the kind of things people think about when weighing these kinds of problems in the abstract.

So the real question is why wouldn’t women fear those that have actually harmed them vs a group that honestly just wants to keep to themselves and has no interest in you unless you’re a threat?
