    @jsrailton I knew some people who wrote an automated trading system about 15 years ago that used an ANN. They weren’t into, you know, testing before deploying. It didn’t end well, same vibe here.

    @GottaLaff every time a Republican tells us they are for the rule of law, or limited government or the constitution we all have to call them out and reply “no you are not”. They have been lying about this for so long people believe them 🤷

    @breadandcircuses I’m not arguing that things are not objectively bad but there is only so much bad our minds can take. I often think of this Milton quote "The mind is its own place and, in itself can make a heaven of hell or a hell of heaven."

    I love Ian Banks' books because he frequently takes the time to imagine a utopia, not as an allegory for why utopias are impossible (and in the extreme sense they are, we all get that, it's not interesting) but rather as an exercise in seeing how close one could get to a society with real freedom and few contradictions.

    I think it's a good exercise. OK fine so how would a world without hunger or unwanted suffering work?

    He took on the topic of gender in this spirit and it's glorious.

    @futurebird way too soon. My all time favorite Bank’s quote is not even from one of his books, it was after he was given his prognosis: "I've asked my partner Adele if she will do me the honour of becoming my widow”. That one sentence shows you who he was.
