@SJohnRoss I remember books with page-flip animation in the corners. That was a good time, and the technology isn't that obscure.

RPG tip from the archive: Interesting scenes have a lot going on in them. Goblins stealing canoes and blowing a horn to call a t-rex right after the characters left a dungeon.

@slyflourish Hmmm. I don't feel convinced, but I guess I should just write my own darn tips then.

Three magical laws (the usual two and one more):

Sympathy: Things that resemble each other can be used to affect each other magically.

Contagion: Things that were once united are still connected magically.

Personification: If you address a thing as if it were conscious and capable in some way in a spell, it will attempt to act consciously and capably in that way.

So: Is that third one as vaguely clear as the usual ones, with a nice heap of interesting implications?

@LeviKornelsen Hmmm. My reductive nature seeks to harmonize these. Perhaps the thing tends strongly to become as conscious and capable as the person who is addressing it. Mirrors within mirrors.

@LeviKornelsen Is it worse than Catwoman?

I recently added a heating cable for my Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony. ( it’s been cold in our coop and they have brood already, knew they’d like the warmth.) This same colony has also, much to my annoyance, insisted on keeping a small midden of what I assumed was trash in one chamber of their log. They have a big garbage pile far away in the outworld too … so I thought they were just lazy. But when I added the heating cable they moved the garbage… to another chamber (?) 1/

@futurebird My guess would be some form of gardening -- cultivating a stash of some form of beneficial bacteria, fungus, very small mites, or something of that sort. But I'm not really basing that on anything.

@LeviKornelsen I just use whatever's built into Outlook. There's just not that much to them.

Imagine being a musically talented oyster and trying to form a band with your oyster friends, only to find out that the name Pearl Jam has already been taken by HUMANS. I would be furious.

@lowqualityfacts They play a lot of clam rock.
