Why is this article (almost completely) written like there are multiple brothers at this point? One has been dead for 4 and a half years.

I think you underestimate some of those things. People know about the stuff you listed and they still want him.

But...that's what they said

@ripcord@kbin.social avatar

There's not.

Russian invasion of Ukraine and no significant consequences was one of the most recent examples.

They've been sanctioned, but not to hell and back. They've had minimal real consequences.

They certainly haven't stopped Russia from continuing to kill families indescriminately.ane constantly.

Not sure what you're asking about Palistine.

Not really a good comparison.

If American Samoa had been an independent country for the last 75 years, operating pretty much completely independently, had 23 million people, claimed not to be ruled by the US, and other people were saying "we recognize that it has been independent for decades at this point" then it'd be comparable.

What happens if Taiwan attempts full autonomy or China attempts full control

Are you implying Taiwan isn't already fully autonomous? Or that China has any control over Taiwan...?

Yet another reason to quit buying so much bottled water

ripcord ,
@ripcord@kbin.social avatar

Best filter is to not have them in the first place

ripcord ,
@ripcord@kbin.social avatar

But the filters introduce way way fewer.plastics...?

ripcord ,
@ripcord@kbin.social avatar

You're talking like .01% as much plastic use per liter as plastic bottle water packs. Is that not....much much better?

@ripcord@kbin.social avatar

It's like it in that this is true, but there's a big, big, big difference in how big a deal a given amount being in our systems is.

The plane will miss passengers when they fall out, good point.

A jolly, CANDY-like button!

I'll watch it somewhere, but it's not going to be at TwitX.

Edit here: https://youtu.be/pIsVB-H_M_8?feature=shared

The most relevant part starts around 4:22 but the whole thing is good (well, up until the YouTuber jumps in with his take, which fortunately is after the CNN segment)

There's lots of evidence of domestication, cultivation, tending over the last 13,000+ years. But calling it a "planted forest" - like as if the majority of plants out in the Amazon were seeded/planted manually by humans - seems like a huge stretch.

He supposedly had 12 proberties in NYC alone. How that could be worth less than $10M, not including supposedly his properties in TX, OH, and others, I don't get. Plus whatever he's squirrelled away, probably offshore.

If you don't really understand it, why do you believe this is so big?

You know, I hadn't heard the term "tankie" before coming to Lemmy/Kbin, and at this point I'm lost again on what it's supposed to mean. I have a general idea but it seems to mostly just be a malleable catch-all for "someone I don't like who possible sort of leans one way a bit on some things". Like how "boomer" has become super over-ueed boogeyman term for "someone older than me I don't like".

Seems like a lazy way to categorize tribally, and group people as "others". Or am I getting it totally wrong?
