I didn't expect the tag to have such a high proportion of posts arguing against it. Or more often, taking potshots at straw-man versions. So here's a small corrective.

Capitalist growth will doom even its beneficiaries to a hostile future. We need degrowth at every scale, as soon as possible, by any means necessary. Use adblock, become a quiet quitter, eat less meat, sabotage a golf course, learn to compost. We owe this – and much more – to future generations of the living world.

... is this a Wednesday Dude?

some beige/tan/brown wall tiles from the bathroom at my local Ingles grocery store. The thin line of brown tiles, with small clutters below and large, lighter tiles above, makes it look like the ground kinda. The "sky" tiles are textured&shaded as if to resemble stone I guess? And the subject of the picture is: someone has used a ballpoint pen to add very simple eyes and mouth to a particular lighter-shaded blob on a "sky" tile, so that it now suggests a Jabba the Hutt kind of creature sitting on the ground. Definitely "weird little guy" vibes in a good way This is like at eye level next to the urinal in there lol

    i'm like, faaaiirly but not totally sure that I saw an Eastern Kingbird when I took the kids to the park this afternoon, and i'm aware of the uh. Changing climate. But I went back five years on ebird at a couple of different local hotspots, and there are no sightings recorded before like mid April. So i'm struggling here

    @loren yeah, odds are if anything else it was a Phoebe, but i'm super familiar with those - they nest on our house lol - and to my eye it was noticeably darker and bigger/more upright. Didnt see any tail bobbing, but absence of evidence etc etc.

    Another day, another couple of neat lookin polypores(?) that don't seem to match anything in the guide I've been using.

    A gray, weathered cut end of a log. Growing from it are two different kinds of fungus - one is a thin shelf with a short stem and striking brown-and-white zoning, the other is more bracket-looking (no stem), thick and bumpy, whitish with a tan margin. Almost looks like a forbidden roasted marshmallow haha

    just paying my regular visit to little sweet Betsy across the way

    A maroon flower not yet unfolded, sticks up from the center of three broad mottled leaves (technically they are bracts but it's fine). It's a Trillium species, probably cuneatum, sometimes known as little sweet Betsy. Underneath and around it are various green groundcovers and some brown leaves and other older forest floor debris.
