Bonus points for recognizing Palestine internationally and getting Israeli war criminals in front of the ICC.

That is laughable. A US president to get war criminals before a court that the US does not recognize.

in the limelight.

*the Turkish nationalists.

There's millions of lovely and non-genocidal people in Turkey. Source: learning Turkish since 2015 and travel there a lot

That letter is way too polite for the "go fuck yourselves" that I had in mind...
I honestly think we should start actually spitting in the faces of managers of that kind that we happen to know in private life, be it family or neighbors, just show them disdain and disgust coming from people whom they have no power over.

I highly recommend using compressed air over oxygen. Nitrox 100 (pure oxygen) becomes toxic below 5 meters...

1.6 bars partial pressure Oxygen is considered unsafe / hazardous.

It's why I'll always remain happy with recreational diving at depths less than 40m :) Tech divers are a bit crazy imo. Sure, there's nice views to be had (if you bring a lot of light), but it's not worth the risk for me.

Meta to close Threads in Turkey to comply with injunction prohibiting data sharing with Instagram ( techcrunch.com )

Meta said on Monday that it plans to “temporarily” shutter Threads in Turkey from April 29, in response to an interim injunction imposed by the Turkish competition authority last month over the way Meta shares data between Threads and Instagram....

US, Japan, Australia and the Philippines to stage military drills in disputed South China Sea ( apnews.com )

The United States, Japan, Australia and the Philippines will hold their first joint naval exercises, including anti-submarine warfare training, in a show of force Sunday in the South China Sea where Beijing’s aggressive actions to assert its territorial claims have caused alarm....

I think the current designs would all use radiation heat, which means infrared etc light hitting the reactor walls and a coolant (water) running through them to generate steam, and then it's the good old turbine to electricity process...
Light emitted from a plasma that hot isn't that hot itself / wouldn't heat reactor walls to the same temps.

As an aerospace engineer: ahahahahah. Not. Take your insecurities elsewhere. Preferably to a therapist, instead of externalizing your self-hatred.

raspberriesareyummy ,

Sad, but necessary. At least this one didn't suffer.

raspberriesareyummy ,

That may be not an option for the individual conscript. We don't know who of them was recruited under which circumstances. They are still humans. Even for war criminals we can unfortunately not deny that they are human.

With the Russian army being the aggressor, and short of Putler withdrawing from Ukraine, it is unfortunately the only option for Ukraine to kill the Russian soldiers in self defense. If that can be accomplished without causing them to suffer unnecessarily, that is the preferable option.

raspberriesareyummy ,

There are certainly Russian soldiers who knew enough about that war to make such an informed decision. But Putler is also using this war to perform an ethnic cleansing a genocide among Russian minorities from far east - recruiting people from communities with little knowledge about world politics and being very very poor. Buratya comes to mind.
Low education + poor + pressure + promise of money and you will end up with a lot of recruits who had no idea what they were getting into until their own soldiers started pointing rifles at their backs from the second line should they dare retreat.

raspberriesareyummy ,

If you lost it, you are dehumanizing people, which is a condition that many absolutist regimes aim to accomplish to enable genocide.

The Russian war of aggression and uncounted war crimes against Ukraine are suitable to make everyone furious, but how we treat even mass murderers is a reflection not of who they are, but who we are. By doing more than the necessary (and if that is killing, by being excessively cruel, or enjoying the killing), we harm ourselves, not the enemy. Because we desensitize ourselves to violence, and we become that which we claim to be fighting.

Support Ukraine with everything we have, but let us enable them to kill as cleanly as possible - that also means (looking at you, my government in Berlin) to give them proper long range missiles. Let us never rejoice over unnecessary cruelty towards anyone - although we may be happy for neutralized threats.

raspberriesareyummy ,

That's not a very agreeable take. Just get rid of patents and copyrights altogether and your point dissolves itself into nothing. The core difference being derivative works by humans can respect the right to privacy of original creators.

Deep learning bullshit software however will just regurgitate creator's contents, sometimes unrecognizable, but sometimes outright steal their likeness or individual style to create content that may be associated with the original creators.

what you are in effect doing, is likening learning from the ideas of others to a deep learning "AI" using images for creating revenge porn, to give a drastic example.

raspberriesareyummy ,

well - for a government that's okay with killing its citizens in general - that's not too surprising. But yes, it is insane.

raspberriesareyummy ,

I hear you, brother. Same situation, same feelings about this :/

raspberriesareyummy ,

Yes, but it will be cheaper for NASA to outsource cargo and crew transport than if they did everything themselves.

That is absolutely wrong. Commercialization in the space sector is - without exception - ALWAYS more expensive in the long run. Not only do you have inefficient company structures much like the public sector administration, you now also have to finance the insane profit margins of some egomaniacs like the little rat that runs shitter these days.

raspberriesareyummy ,

we can kiss going to space goodbye.

and all satellite services, such as GPS & earth observation...

raspberriesareyummy ,

SpaceX is - among other reasons - faster because they are willing to take more risks. When a crew of astronauts dies on a Dragon spacecraft like they did on the Columbia or Challenger, people might reconsider the costly and slow public approach.

Notwithstanding, they did do some impressive design, however some prices are paid after getting what you invested in. In this case because damage control is necessary with an insecure rich snob kid that owns the place & has public temper tantrums on red wine and sedatives.

Edit: oh, and I forgot to say: basically that stupid Ambien kid alone is ruining astronomy results and polluting near earth orbit with the small dick compensation project starlink.

My excuse being the lemmy android app message editor being bugged, getting out of sync when deleting characters.

raspberriesareyummy ,

that's not a verb, that's an emote. Considering you chose the dumbest possible username for lemmy, I am not surprised you wouldn't understand that.

Also: There's a substantial difference to you searching for "anroid" clients and making a post based on those search results.

Bei der Musterung hat mich die Werbung für Jets / Waffensystem-Offiziere auch kurz gereizt, aber nur technisch - drum bin ich dann auch Raumfahrtingenieur geworden :)

Disclaimer: Not a woman, there might be a biological / hormonal aspect to this that only people can understand who've been through this. However, and this might be an unpopular opinion:
The emotional pain associated with a(n early) miscarriage appears to be a sociologically constructed pain. If the people around us wouldn't make it a big deal, many would-be parents would also be less emotionally impacted by a miscarriage in the early months.

I am making this point from a "don't spend too much time suffering over issues that you have no influence over / things that already happened" perspective of mindfulness. When something has happened, fully accepting reality typically also means less emotional pain.
I do not intend to invalidate anyone's pain who has lived through this or is living through it. If people feel they need to mourn, that is a valid desire. Still, I believe more people feel the pain due to how much of a big deal we make it.

It's similar to how children that hurt themselves are more likely to start crying when the adults around them are all acting shocked, because that makes the children think something is wrong.

raspberriesareyummy ,

I would like to second this. The OP reeks of opinionated bullshit. Being against NATO and a western hegemony in the world is absolutely a legitimate political opinion, whether you agree with it or not.
