again, that i doubt that a citizens' arrest will bring a desirable outcome doesn't mean that i don't want the massacre in Gaza to end, nor does it mean that i want the persons responsible for it to escape justice…

and you might want to consider how the intimidation you're resorting to comes straight out of the fascist playbook…

that being said, thanks for blocking and thus confirming my points…

i'd say that there wouldn't be sufficient legal grounds for a citizen's arrest in the US in the case of PM Netanyahu & DM Gallant : for one, the arrest warrants have been requested, but not yet granted at this point… moreover, the US is not a member of the ICC and does not recognize its jurisdiction…

@LightFIAR @palestine

quite likely, or at the very least that's what it looks like… yet that would raise the problem of taking justice in one's own hands…

the international community has (generally) agreed that specific institutions (for instance, the UNSC, the ICJ, and the ICC) would handle such situations… it's up to them to duly establish what is fact and what is mere appearance, or even utter fiction, and to rule accordingly…

a citizen's arrest that is not 100% supported by international agreements could very well exacerbate conflicts, and have unexpected repercussions, for instance for US citizen living abroad… so the US administration would very likely intervene…

@LightFIAR @palestine

as if disingenuousness serves anyone…

likely, living Palestinians would ultimately end up paying a price for those escalations in one way or another…

and it's not as if arresting PM Netanyahu would magically solve the issue… if only because of those Israeli politicians who seems to entertain even more radical ideas than he does…

poligraf OP ,

@LightFIAR @GeriatricGardener @palestine

of course they must face justice, but all of that doesn't give their state to Palestinians… and as long as the underlying culture doesn't change, then new heads will likely grow on the anti-palestinian body…

@LightFIAR @GeriatricGardener @palestine

citizens' arrest : i disagree… it would likely be quite spectacular, but not necessarily fantastic… my impression is that it would backfire spectacularly, and delay the proper delivery of justice, which has already started…

poligraf OP ,
@poligraf@mastodon.online avatar

@LightFIAR @GeriatricGardener @palestine

why ? because illegitimate actions tend to do that…

worse ? however bad things get, they could always be worse…

speculative illustration : a citizens' arrest could be overturned by the US administration, on grounds of legal illegitimacy, leading to further division within the left, and thus possibly to the election of a right wing administration, which then could further bolster and greenlight the Israeli regime…

poligraf OP ,
@poligraf@mastodon.online avatar

@LightFIAR @GeriatricGardener @palestine

illegitimate actions : with all due respect for your experience, stating that « illegitimate actions are often necessary » doesn't prove that they are necessary, nor that they don't backfire…

the conflict offers plenty of illustrations of illegitimate actions backfiring, starting with the unjustified attacks of October 7th, and the disproportionate retaliation of the Israeli regime and their propaganda turning against them…

poligraf OP ,
@poligraf@mastodon.online avatar

@LightFIAR @GeriatricGardener @palestine

i disagree… legitimate actions don't have negative consequences… the existence of randomness is a mere belief…

also, « LOLling » is not innocuous, and is logically fallacious in such contexts as the present conversation… trying to associate a negative feeling to a reply through ridicule is misleading and out of place in any constructive conversation… that you keep resorting to this suggests condescension, which undermines your own stance…

poligraf OP ,
@poligraf@mastodon.online avatar

@LightFIAR @GeriatricGardener @palestine

« that doesn't mean you don't try » : that's easy enough to say when one is not part of the group of people who will likely suffer the brunt of negative consequences…

also, staying away from illegitimate actions does not imply not trying anything at all…

poligraf OP ,
@poligraf@mastodon.online avatar

@LightFIAR @GeriatricGardener @palestine

name calling is also fallacious and doesn't serve your aims either… truth needs no such artifice…

also, that i doubt that a citizens' arrest will bring a desirable outcome doesn't mean that i don't want the massacre in Gaza to end, nor does it mean that i want the persons responsible for it to escape justice…

it doesn't need to be dramatic to be effective though… with each country that joins in, the idea that recognition must be conditioned to direct negotiations between Israel and the PA loses ground… clearly, a vast majority of states consider that it doesn't have merit…
