@pluralistic not sure if it is a thing in the US but many restaurants in Ireland charge "corkage" if you byob.

I have a friend who last year moved into a new house. This week she couldn't figure out why her toilet refused to flush.

It turns out that the batteries used to activate the cistern had run out. She removed the panel at the flush button, changed the batteries and then saw that a manual flush mechanism existed behind the panel out of reach when said panel is returned to its place.

@pluralistic needs to know this.
