Help me prove a thing to my colleague, who says free food will not encourage students to attend an induction event.

If you were a new Master's student and on the fence about attending an event would free food make you more likely to go?

@ergative my recollection of grad school is that free food will always attract students and free coffee will always attract the faculty.

For every day I spend systematically answering e-mails, I leave dozens of books unread.

I already have an email policy in my syllabus, which says that I prefer to answer questions in class, since we see each other several days a week.
What other tips do you have that have worked for you?

@gonzalo @academicchatter course discussion board on the LMS, where all course-related questions go, so that I only answer them once.

@gonzalo @academicchatter also, drop the worst assignments, weight of missed midterm goes onto the final, no extensions, so that I am not wasting energy judging excuses.

Why give Twitter $8 a month when you could pay only $1 to support my occasional jokes about how hilariously incompetent Elon Musk is instead? Also, I post pictures of my cats. Just look at them. Elon Musk doesn't post pictures of cats. If anything, Elon eats cats. I have no proof of this but we all know it's true.
