Economist at USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Toots are often about nonprofit economics, public economics, economic history, except when they are dumb jokes

Did you know? When SCOTUS said in 1937 that the Social Security Act was unconstitutional, President Roosevelt didn’t ask people to vote harder in the next election, he told the Supreme Court he’d add more justices until they backed off, which they did. — We can still do that.

@Strandjunker In 1936:
-- FDR was reelected with 523 electoral college votes, while his Republican opponent got 8.
--The Democratic party gained 5 seats in the Senate, increasing their supermajority to 75-17
-- The Democratic Party won 334 seats in the House, compared to 88 for the GOP and a few for other parties

FDR didn't need to tell anyone to vote harder because they had already voted good and hard.
