Was talking to someone today about accessibility on fedi, and realized that even though I love the philosophy and want to support it, the platform's focus on accessibility in the form of alt-text makes it inaccessible to me because of my competing disabilities, and that's the main reason I post here much less than on other platforms.

@lowrah @FediTips I know about Alt4Me. It's helpful but not a panacea. For example I'm concerned that making an account just for posting my visual art will open me up to bullying if people see on every single post. I've already noticed that people stop volunteering if you post multiple images in a short time. Easier to just not share the images.

If you have a disability that makes it difficult to add alt text, and you make this clear somehow, would hope people would refrain from criticism? Is this not happening?

(Personally I don't mention it if someone hasn't alted, I just do an Alt4You reply. If they're abled this subtly gives them the message that they need to add alt text without being a blanket criticism.(
