What do people actually want in terms of a sci Fi or fantasy world for ? Yes, it's a broad question.

@Jackgiantkiller Sources of conflict that invite story. 13th Age is well worth reading just for the worldbuilding, with more than a dozen situations balanced on a knife’s edge, waiting to be toppled.

@Jackgiantkiller The world should evoke the sense of wonder, even if it’s very similar to our own. (e.g.: Max Gladstone’s Craft Sequence books are full of familiar tropes like ATMs and coffee-shop franchises and lawyers wielding entirely too much power, but what a depiction!)

RPG tip: Offer weapon enchantment gemstones any character can affix to a weapon or armor to make it magical.

Today in 1860, the Pony Express was launched. How do messages get places in your world? Messengers? Post? Message spells? Subspace transmissions? A big part is: is there a quicker way to get news than just physically going someplace?

@Jackgiantkiller Thamaturgically entangled parchment, made by enchanting sheets made from the same animal, written on with alchemical inks so the same marks would appear on linked pages, was the original basis of the banking system that financed the growth of the Empire. Later on, the development of paper and magically connected movable type made it possible to share newspaper stories from distant cities in real time, which led to the Empire’s fall.

prompt 3/29/24 Tell me about your Hell, or your underworld, or your infernal realms if you have them, real or merely religious, in your ttrpg world.

@Jackgiantkiller The real problem with hells run by evil deities is that someone sufficiently evil might get promoted. Simply killing an opponent isn't always going to get the job done. That's why the Demon Lord Nurgax runs a contract hell where the souls you provide are guaranteed to get chewed on for millennia until the last of their karma is thoroughly purged, at which point the wrung-out shred can finally return to the Wheel of Life and Death! Would you like to buy a Nurgax runesword?

#Worldbuilding prompt 1/13/24
Does your fantasy setting include firearms? Why not? Given that the tech used to make full plate and rapiers came after we'd been using guns for a while, what happened to keep folks from using gunpowder in your world? If you want to be more in line with history, you need to explain the lack of firearms more than their presence.

@Jackgiantkiller Concentrating that much elemental fire in one place causes spontaneous elemental formation instead of an explosion. This does mean you can set traps that have cranky uncontrolled fire elementals...
