This is Merchan simultaneously being scrupulous about impaneling a fair jury while acknowledging that the trial could plausibly result in jail time for TFG (I think the word “counsel” is mistranscribed from “could”). TFG is prob not smart enough to understand the implications here, but trust me, his lawyers do.

@GottaLaff This is just Sadow putting the best spin he can on it. These types of motions are routinely denied “without prejudice”, meaning that the moving party can try again if new/different facts are established. Kind of like after losing a trial, the attorney comes out and says “We have excellent grounds for appeal”.

The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that because any frog could be a baby that has been transformed into a frog by an evil sorcerer, frogs are now legally people. Judicial scholars have not yet determined how this ruling will affect our lives, but have collectively declared that although clearly idiotic, it is sadly not the most idiotic decision the Alabama Supreme Court has made this week.

The price of Huggies diapers went up 6% between April- June 2023.

Inflation, right? Wrong.

Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Huggies, reported that the cost to make its products fell by $75 million.They took the money and ran, banking $168 million in operating profits in Q3 2023.

Now, new research shows that corporate profits drove 53% of inflation during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023. During the 40 years prior to the pandemic, profits drove just 11% of price growth.
