MAing @ Hacettepe Linguistics (thesising, due early 2024). Majoritised/privileged identity discourses & interaction between discourse and space. But i've the itch to jump to urban history for my PhD, and find a non-linguistics way to do those discourse stuff. Dunno, confused rn. We'll see!

when I see folks publishing open access in glam journals with >€5000 APCs i think, wow, you convinced your employer to buy you a horse 🐎

then I realise, actually you convinced them to pay enough to buy an actual horse but what you got was a PDF hosted on a nature dot com domain

publish & prioritise diamond open access if you can, folks, and just upload your stuff in green OA otherwise

historians, and grad students in history, a questions for you from a grad student who's "history-curious" about now:

what does your day-to-day work look like? what kind of work does your research involves?

i do have a rough picture but not very detailed

two #iphone / #ios tips for students and scholars:

  1. iOS books app is actually a very good PDF reader, i've done it on and off for years and it's fine)

  2. Safari has some very nice features for research (tab groups, sharing a tab group as a list of links, a reading list, etc), but it's built in ad block is trash. but if you install "firefox focus", it comes with a safari extension which significantly improves the situation

Re-post: I would like to ask for your help.

As part of my dissertation project, I'm aiming to collect a large research sample to help construct a validated measure on Teacher Attitudes towards Multilingualism.

If you are a teacher (primary, secondary, tertiary education), and you teach multilingual students, could I please ask for 10 minutes of your time?

The survey is available here:

Please boost—thank you so much!

@brohee @jaap @edutooters @academicchatter those are pretty straightforward and expected questions for such a survey, answering them is also pretty straight forward too. the reason you don't know what can be inferred is you aren't the researcher

i have a feeling i asked about this before but:

do you take reading notes per project or do you have one central "pool" for reading notes shared across your work?

or i guess a better way to put it: do you do your readings per project?

there's no "correct" answer ofc but i basically wonder how folk go about this because as stuff i do changed a few times, got larger, and diverse it became a big mess for me (& i used to use the "central" approach)

still sci-hub is superior to open access and open science combined

sci-hub and preprints

all these fuckers with so much money in the bank haven't had nearly the impact of some gal with a computer and some folk who put their pdfs on a webpage

it's not a coincidence. all these "open" shite is reputation laundering and marketing operations. they were never for our benefit
