@jbaggs@infosec.exchange

I've been in and out of information security professionally, but somehow always have related projects. Mainly working with zeek and network level detection at the moment. SDR, cycling, and climbing enthusiast.

I boost a lot. Topics range far and wide from security and "the cybers" and may include politics, food, humor, science, law, nature, art, and other sundry unsavories. I occasionally post my own projects and thoughts.

@jerry Glad you are giving the cat shots. I'm not sure you'll be a master phlebotomist when you're on the other side of the needle again, but familiarity is something.

@jerry What do you look at / think about when you give the cat a shot, and what do you normally think about / do when you get one?

Hey, it’s Friday afternoon and you know what that means!

It’s almost time to push those changes to production as you leave for the weekend!

Good people of the fediverse: I understand your deep disdain for all things AI/LLM/ML, particularly when it comes to art. That said, please stop reporting posts that contain AI generated images if there's no intent to deceive with that image.

Reporting a post with the complaint "suspected AI art" isn't going to result in a response, and just wastes everyone's time.

Note: If someone posts a clearly AI generated image and says "Look at this painting I made, please send money to support my art", I think we can take action there for deception.

    It’s interesting that though the total number of fediverse users went up by 70000 in the past month, the number of monthly active users dropped by 60000. If I’m reading that right, 10% (130k) of all active accounts went inactive over the past month.

    "3 Physicists Use Experimental Evidence To Show CO2’s Capacity To Absorb Radiation Has Saturated":

    https://notrickszone.com/2024/04/23/3-physicists-use-experimental-evidence-to-show-co2s-capacity-to-absorb-radiation-has-saturated/

    Basically, they argue that more CO2 won't lead to higher temperatures; that above a certain level of saturation, CO2 stops working as a greenhouse gas.

    jbaggs ,
    @jbaggs@infosec.exchange avatar

    @bontchev Ah yes. I always rely on "NothingUpMySleeve [dot] com" for all of my science reporting.

    jbaggs ,
    @jbaggs@infosec.exchange avatar

    @bontchev Actually I did read over the article first. Then I looked into the site and site founder, since it seemed rather off.

    jbaggs ,
    @jbaggs@infosec.exchange avatar

    @bontchev I think it is very relevant from the standpoint of understanding misinformation and propaganda.

    As far as the science in the paper goes, there are already 2 comments in this thread addressing how focusing on the physics of CO2 absorption in isolation from the dynamics of the entire atmosphere is a mistake.

    I expect to see that sort of debunking in more science oriented venues in the near future.

    jbaggs ,
    @jbaggs@infosec.exchange avatar

    @bontchev Well that's fabulous. Continue having no issue with debate, while ignoring the biases of the site you linked to I guess.

    I find it absolutely laughable you keep using a term like zealot with me, while you are ever so angry I mentioned the site you linked to might have a bias.

    jbaggs ,
    @jbaggs@infosec.exchange avatar

    @bontchev It's an engineering paper by a corporation that encourages scientists to publish.

    jbaggs ,
    @jbaggs@infosec.exchange avatar

    @bontchev
    They seem pretty non valid. Your need to narrow the debate down to why a non valid argument needs to be listened to again, after it has been discredited, does sound like propaganda though.

    Can you take 5 seconds and think about that before calling me a zealot or whatever to discredit the fact someone might have an agenda here?

    it’s wild and slightly alarming to me how much thinking and criticism from the late 70s and early 80s is extremely alive and on point today

    like, the heated debates in late 70s (and even late 60s/early 70s) architectural/planning circles are THE SAME DEBATES were are having now about new networks

    @ai6yr My question is why HVAC people use such cursed units.

    Inches of water? Then there's degrees Rankine, where the scale is graduated like Fahrenheit, but centered on absolute zero.
