I just came across this TikTok " for their for dinner" remark", and I love how clear the goal and mechanism to achieve it are: if enough people do this one fairly little thing for a full quarter, the powerful will notice, and can be forced to change their behavior.

That's how boycotts work, after all.

There's a playlist, where she answers a lot of "but..." and "what if..." comments. Go listen.

We are two whole months into the #KelloggsBoycott. If you don't know what that is, there's a whole lot of context here: https://herhandsmyhands.wordpress.com/2024/03/06/let-them-eat-cereal/

Essentially, it's time for the wealthy to tighten their belts a little, and for the rest of us to have accessible to affordable food that won't kill us.

It's never too late to join in any collective action for the greater good.

Go forth and #LetThemEatCereal

Public libraries must remain public cultura infrastructure if they're to fulfill their mission at all, let alone survive.

Worth noting how little it costs to keep them functioning compared to what cities everywhere pay cops--who, lest we forget, have no constitutional obligation to save, serve, or protect the public; to know the laws they're "applying", or not to commit crimes themselves.

Via @tuphlos, I just found out that Oklahoma's Supreme Court bocked the right wing state from banning books from public schools and penalizing schools who refused to comply with the fascists.

4+ years into COVID and many still missing the nuances:

Often 6ft isn't enough, but increasing physical distance reduces risk

N95s are much better, but surgical masks do help

Outdoors is safer, but you can still catch it

Vaccines reduce transmission, but don't eliminate it

herhandsmyhands ,
@herhandsmyhands@romancelandia.club avatar

@luckytran The problem is that "nuance" is a bad word for the people in charge of leading public education on everything from politics to public health.

At this point, one has to figure it's on purpose--a feature, not a bug.

I have posted 73 book reviews this year.

Holy crap.

Sitting at 44 reviews published this year, 37 of which are for ARCs

Because arbitrary deadlines* are a thing for me, I wonder if I can publish 13 ARC reviews by the end of the month.

  • It's the symbolic symmetry of publishing 50 in the first half of 2024 and 50 in the second half, to get the coveted 200 reviews badge by the end of the year.

So the RWA has declared bankruptcy, and chooses to blame it on Courtney Milan and the "woke push" for DEI.

You knew I would rant about that, yes?

ICYMI: the RWA is filing for bankruptcy, and because nice white ladies (TM) can't help themselves, they're implying it's Courtney Milan's (and the push for progress and inclusivity in the organization) that ruined the organization.

Racism? bigotry? don't know them.
