Sometimes I think about the interesting mineral formations & fossils human manufactured items will become. What will happen to concrete and rebar if it isn't tuned to soil? Will landfills form deposits of their own strange oils and gasses? Will plastic fossilize into amber like formations?

Even bricks could become interesting finds for the minds of the future ... if there is anyone there to admire them.

What if plastic amber was a luxury jewel?

OK Maybe I just don't see ads often because I have them blocked so hard but the little box that shows ads in the CurseForge start up screen on Minecraft caught my eye. It's google adsense. I saw:

  • Ad from local college they want people to apply to teach STEM
  • Thriftbooks
  • Discount on makeup and brown foundation

I was disappointed there were no ads for antkeeping products. But this is CREEPY. Is this the current typical state of ads?

@dillyd @OhOkKay @RickiTarr I send friends I want to join an invite to my server. To strangers, I say, just go to this join mastodon site and join the server it recommends (usually mastodon social)

Whom to follow and intro are identical problems to twitter imo. Any other social media requires forming a network to get content as well.

@dillyd nowadays twitter does that, yeah, you’re right. I think I joined Twitter long ago before any suggestions. The onboarding on Twitter was nearly identical to mine on mastodon, personally

Can someone who has more faith than I in "the market finding the most efficient solution" please poke some holes in what I'm calling The Inoperability Crisis?

The Inoperability Crisis is the tendency for firms producing software to have a great incentive to make their software work with their own, sometimes inferior, versions of software, rather than participating or contributing to universal standards.

It's the software version of one hundred dozen different USB connectors.

I remember the first time someone told me about delivery companies that intentionally break parking laws because it's cheaper to just pay fines if they got caught

I think that was the first time I ran into "economist brain" thinking and I was pissed and ready to burn that company down

And I feel like we've all had this slow-drip of normalizing thinking like that

I wish we could be as angry now about all the other ways that people have intentionally hurt us all by thinking that way since then
